We seem to have attracted some decent players over the summer. Wages can’t be that bad.

Yes, evidently, also Ollie's profile, ability, and expectation for promotion, all have to be considered.  So, it's a combination of things including competitive (Dare I say the word) wages.

Aren’t most largely squad players from other L2 teams? So can’t imagine them pushing at the top end L2 wage bracket.

It’s been widely reported previously our wage budget was towards the bottom third of the league which remains indefensible really.

Assuming the existing wage structure is competitive and not bottom 5 or 6 in the league of course…  if players start leaving because we won’t pay the market rate for decent league 2 players then that would be less justifiable.

Absolutely. Can’t argue with that.

Where have you been the last few seasons? Last season it was supposedly bottom 5 before Morfuni increased it on transfer deadline day to be upper bottom half.

I think Sam M said (on the LSP mailbag) MKD have nearly double the budget we do and they are over 4M.

Not sure these days if ours only covers players mind.

I don't think it's true we are towards the bottom end budget wise.

If it is, then you'd have to admit our recruitment to build the squad we have (which many admit is now top 7 capable) has been exceptional. Which sounds slightly silly when you read it out loud.

I've been here. You said it has been widely reported. I'm just asking where as I haven't seen it.

It's not widely reported or someone would be able to link to it.   A swift Google will show you that all the sites the publish speculation about comparative wage bills have us in the top 7 or 8. But it's fucking guesswork tbh.

The most recent actual data is for 23/24 where our accounts show us with a football cost of sales at about £3.6m. That's actually publically available data, but the likes of footystats still claim a figure a million north of that for wages alone that year so it's all probably bollocks.

Those sites claim that Carlisle's player wages last season were £6.5m or something. Total fantasy numbers.

Thanks Smiley

I had a quick Google search. This site shows us as 6th, if we are talking wage bills:

Even came from Holloways mouth, he said it was about 12th in the league at the end of last season. So that makes it upper bottom half/mud-table. By deduction prior to deadline day last August and budget increase it would have been towards the bottom of the league.

Ok, cheers. 12th is midway out of 24 teams, not bottom third, though. I'm not sure how you deduce that as towards the bottom of the League.

I guess the 4 that went up all had bigger budgets so, assuming the 4 that came down will have smaller budgets (I don't think that is unreasonable, looking at those teams), then that puts us about 8th, which, more or less, ties in with the Capology site.

Sandro said we had a bottom third budget in his season, which may be where the statement comes from

Don’t forgot that the pitch stitching was taken out of this seasons budget so around another £150k less. That was also from IH.
