If we did the same would any right minded Swindon fan think we were serious?  It would be, probably rightly, regarded as an offer to make us look like we were trying to sign a player we can't.

A lot of our fan base think we're a serious football club in spite of a lot worse than selling Smith, so yeah probably.

I've never hidden my love for that giant shit house but he is not irreplaceable. There are other giant forwards we could find (and MUST find, btw. We are so much more fun with an absolute unit upfront) its just do we actually have the ability to find one that fits that we'd probably have to pay for.

Be a pretty hard one to replace when your budget is shirt buttons. Huge element of luck landing him in the first place.

Absolutely this. Baffles me when people are like Cambridge soapy tit wank?! But when you factor in they have genuine investment behind them, direction, better training facilities and can offer more money, and add in that we aren't even entertaining entering longer term contract discussions with him, then why the hell not.

Footballers don't really care if a club has any sort of decent history or some mickey mouse club if the money if there. Club size and things like that only come in to it if the money is the same. Money first, location second and everything else is an after thought.

You could put a new club called Tin Pot FC in the league with an average attendance of 12 and players would go there if the money was right.

Selling Smith would completely kill the vibe and probably see Holloway n his bike too.

Surely even Clem wouldn't be that stupid?

Even if he wants to go, we have to keep him. The message this would send out would be the absolute end for Morfuni and co. The squad has been built around him, and he is the rarest commodity. Anyone remember that 5 year plan? We’ve actually got optimism in the fan base for the first time in years. Don’t go killing it now.

If they were to sell, it begs the question once again, why on earth does Morfuni own a football club? Because he has zero intention of running one that’s good at football….

The stick the board will get will be fun.

No, it won't. A few people will moan and then get shouted down by absolute fuckwits and everyone will be at each others throats while the club will get some pretty admin fees.

It would be the very opposite of fun.

I mean to make it worse, the season starts NEXT WEEK!

Also I feel like we're long overdue an end to this banter era. Been a solid 12/13 years now.

I'll make it potentially even worse. We have Cambridge the week after.

I think losing Smith will have a similar impact as when Greer left, albeit I’m not sure it will be quite as drastic (relegation).

However, the prediction of 17th won’t look quite as stupid

Another all time classic dumb Swindon decision.

How inevitable do we think this is?

This feels like a rogue turning point. It’s about what it represents, as much as what it means on the pitch. Not many transfers sting, but this has really got me.

It’s just a braindead, absolutely mind numbingly brain dead decision if we let him go.

He absolutely can be and don't call me Shirley.

I don't think it would be. His supporters are completely blind to every bit of shite the club does, so they'd be just as blind to that I expect.

Flip side to all of this, is that if he stays it shows 1/ support for the manager (rather than completely undermining him) 2/ a show of intent that they actually want to have a successful team (rather than undermining any statement of ambition).

This is an opportunity for Morfuni to actually win hearts and minds as well…

He’s a 30 year old journeyman, if he forces out/downs tools to get a move to a side who I think finish below us next year (if he stays) then he isn’t someone you want at your club (not saying he has or will). I also don’t trust the club re-invest if we was to sell, last time we sold a key player at the start of a season was Mckirdy for a good few quid and replaced him with Morgan Rogers from non-league. Could also say the same for Wakeling where we replaced him with Miles Obodo…

Have I missed something from yesterday? Lots of people seem to be talking as if this is a done deal?

Not only would it be an enormous loss for the squad it would put a huge dampener on fan morale, of which they've actually managed to build some excitement this year. Unless I've missed something I'm hopeful of him staying
