He's miles ahead of Evans who needs to play a season on loan.  It would benefit nobody for him to be no. 2 IMO and could probably be the end of his career tbh.
Agree totally. Evans won't improve without game time, he cant get that while getting splinters in his arse on the bench.

Also Mildy must like having him around if he's happy to have him back for a third stint.

That’s fine - get Evans out on loan. Not an issue.

Still could get a better #2 though.

Probably not for the wages we were offering I would guess.

Ward is also a very good goalie coach so will probably help bring on the younger ones. I know this as a few of my mates kids are coached by him.

Im guessing there are also community reasons Ward was brought in then, aside from him being a competent backup.

Absolutely, part of his previous deal included his coaching of kids in it.

I am guessing a similar deal will be in place this time too.

I think it was as a wage top up thing part paid by the EFL by a grant as a pathway to get current players into coaching IIRC.

Think it just works all round. He’s local to the area, has some history here with the GK coach and is capable of stepping in for the odd game here and there.

Don’t think he’ll be pushing Ripley very closely for number 1 but allows Redman Evans out on loan and likely won’t kick up a fuss at not playing too much.

Also on a smaller level, has been around a promotion squad for last season so can come in with some experience of that.

He's kind of Phil Smith lite. And Phil Smith was a perfectly decent enough number two. Seemingly, PS also was happy to be an ''on-call'' GK. He could do a job when called upon. I feel Ward is in this capability bracket too.

Good comparison that.

Ward is miles better than Bycroft as well, if we're honest and putting the "one of our own" thing aside.

Much rather have a Lewis Ward type no.2 than a Connor Brann who we didn’t want to play so that we can use the emergency loan market. Sol Brynn ended up playing all the pizza cup games that season.
