We were quoted 500k for Young late last year when we enquired to purchase him.

He hit a purple patch with us but not worth near that figure, £100k at most IMO.

I think if you are serious about selling players then 100k on a soon to be 23 year old Striker is a decent investment honestly.

Especially as someone here suggested it was 50k to get Clarke out his contract.

Just because people are crying out for a rumour I am going to put forward 31 year old (32 next month) 6ft 4 inch centre back Michael Hector who was recently released by Charlton. He is probably going to be looking at league 1, but based on absolutely nothing at all I think we should try and sign him.

* Note this is a made up transfer rumour by me after I saw he was linked with Port Vale.

Or we have just taken over his contract and not paid a fee at all

Now that would get me very excited!

I agree that's more likely. However the reason Mansfield trigger the year option is to make something right? I would assume its nominal.

Lots of noises of at least 2 more this week.

I thought we were still under embargo from the last January for the next 3 transfer windows stopping us paying a transfer fee for anyone. Has that been sorted now?

Yep I have heard they expect 2 or 3 new signings with a winger and a CB priority, all more experienced players and not rookie youngsters.

Rumour off Twitter, no idea on the credibility

“Kemp in doncaster still negotiating with Swindon, while doing a medical over there. Wants to come back but deal no where near as good as Doncaster's offer. Jai Rowe to be announced by the end of the week 🔚#stfc“

I have heard Wrexham are offering him a deal too, Charlton also interested still.

A winger would be encouraging as i would like a return to 433 honestly.

Important to remember that 4 or 5 experienced players can't be the end of business. We need maybe 10-11, just for numbers, and there is probably some deadwood to shift.

It will be a good start, but its just a start.

Just to add i think we have 13 contracted, and that includes Johnson, Aguiar, Cain, Dworzack and Uwakwe. Those 5 range anywhere from unknown how good they could be, to have played for a couple of years and not shown a lot.

So lots of work to do.

Absolutely, get a more solid backbone of experienced players but still add 4 or 5 young punts as well, going by Russell and Kennedys comments last week its unlikely we will get many loans in.

I understand why people don't like loans, and of course they are right its better to develop your own assets, but i think it depends on the types of loans you are talking about.

It would be foolish not to use loans if you can get a better standard of player in.

Loaning from league 2 clubs is bad (no matter how good), because you will never be able to make that deal permanent. I think loans from top clubs of players with an eye to signing is the sort of thing i would like to return to. Think Cox, Cuthbert, or Luongo, Byrne, Foderingham etc.

It is having the right blend of loans on the right terms, too often we have a first 11 with 5 loans or players who get unsettled/recalled in January. There is nothing wrong with having 2 or 3 good loans, just as long as they aren't the lynchpin of your season like Yates & Doyle or Kemp & Young.

You also cannot build stability over multiple seasons with loans, which is something we need now. A settled squad who can grow together over a few years. Look at Oxford, so many of their squad are players that have been together 2 to 3 seasons plus.

I fully get what you are saying mate.

I do love getting an exciting young quality kid though who gets the fans going even if its for 6 months. Like Louie Barry, Matt Smith, KKH etc in the last few years as otherwise we wouldnt get such a quality player at the club.

Going back further such players as Shay Given, Tim Flowers, Michael Carrick, James Milner, Hal Robson-Kanu, Andy Gray, Jimmy Davis etc would never have appeared for us with out the loan system.

If the player is fully scouted and can add quality then I am always fine with a loan, I dont want the junk being fobbed off on us though, of which we have had far too many to mention, several in recent years too.
