Yep. Clarke is a box to box left sided central midfielder. Nnamdi Ofoborh is the DM

Oforboh holding with Clarke and Khan box to box as a midfield 3?
Doesn't sound too bad to be honest. A lot more physical too.

Looks pretty good. Though I imagine Kahn will be sold? I would like a more attacking player to be in a more advanced role in front of Oforboh and Clarke, in the mould of a Payne, or Kemp type.

Yeah I think that’s the perfect balance, Clark, Ofoborh and a Kemp type. Was thinking back to our midfield in the League One play off season, I think it looked most solid with Kasim, Luongo and L.Thompson. Kasim sitting with L.Thompson and Luongo going up and down, Luongo probably slightly more forward. In terms of creativity though, Gladwin in for L.Thompson probably edged it and gave a really balanced midfield. So I think having the option to switch between those two types of midfield when needed would be essential throughout whole season

Lots of comments on here but what we need to get out of L2 is:
Good (enough) Keeper Big CB Big CM Big CF - This one is key!
Build a team around that.
You might not win the league but that will get you up.
Lots of modern coaching methods now but have the players at L2 level really got any better?

Wellens' team had the keeper (Benda) and the CM (Grant) but not sure we had a big defender (Baudry and Fryers not big guys) or a big forward (nor Doyle or Yates). Lots of ways to go up, but they basically all boil down to being good at something, which is where we've gone wrong recently.

To me, a loan should be a bit of stardust that you'd never otherwise be able to get, not someone to paper over the cracks.
Paper over cracks in an emergency maybe, not so much in the summer.

Isn’t Clarke a DM, too? Will we/should we play with 2 DMs if Obofrhe(?) signs as well.
Seems a strong 2 in a 4-2-3-1, doesn't it? And then Kemp as the middle in the 3. and then i'll wake up.

Not enough ‘bully’ boys in my opinion.

Very much this. You have to be good at something. This obsession with a big bully boy side is very odd and old fashioned. You certainly need the physicality to compete.

I've said this before but one of the things I hate the absolute most about modern football is the rise of the people that seem to think styles of football is a binary choice between being uber tippy tappy tika taka 1,767 passes per move style of football and being outright Wimbledon crazy gang kick you 17 feet in the area and every ball from the back bypasses the midfield to a big man.
Shite.

The branding of 442 as 'dinosaur' by the Pep disciples, in their roll necks and expensive trainers, is a crying shame.
The great Man Utd teams of the 90s were absolutely brilliant to watch. A team playing fast, counter attacking football like that now would rip open these stats padding wankers, I'm sure of it!
Paolo's title winning team very much played in that Ferguson style I thought.

Maybe old fashioned but many clubs have proved that it works.

Agree and was going to mention that. Paolos team was very much that kind of happy medium you want. Good passing football but at pace.
