Perfection is not attainable

This is why I suspect the whole £10k a week thing is bollocks, he needs Wrexham probably as much if not more than they need him and whilst they aren't short of cash they equally haven't, to date at least, come across as being total fuckwits, you could get a perfectly adequate keeper at this level for about 20% of that!
They must have some form of FFP wage limits they have to adhere to as all clubs, they cannot just go out and buy every player they want for whatever wages, that would be utter madness.

TBF keeper is one position that certainly in the lower leagues age is not a quality limiting factor unlike every outfield position.

If the rumoured wage they offered Gareth Bale are to be believed then they are willing to "break the bank" to sign quality, even if they are now suggesting it was not a serious offer to him.

I think we will have a lot of this sort of thing happening with them a lot as they do fucking love the publicity of it all.

Several places seem to suggest he was getting £4k a week last season, can't see them more than doubling that. I suspect as much as anything he gets a shit load on expenses when he goes up for matches training etc as the videos show a pretty nice hotel/apartment etc, albeit I suspect again that is nicely discounted for the publicity the accommodation provider is getting.

Some would say they love publicity, some would suspect that this publicity is as much driven by supporters of other clubs jumping on every rumour about them and perpetuating them seeming to be in the eye all the time.  Wink Cheesy

Who knows, pleased for the fans as a supporter of a club who has an equally shitty time of it over the last 20 years, will it last, not really my problem.

If true we must have paid money for him as showing on the Walsall retained list as of 19 May '23

surely we aren't in the market to pay for in contact players.

Khan, Hutton, Clayton, Cain, Roberts, FBT were all fees of one sort or another I think? Possibly Darcy too although probably nominal.

Yeah when I say "fees" I definitely don't imagine that many of them involved large amounts of up front cash!

It’s why the whole on a shit budget thing annoys me.

We spent money last year, just badly. Players like Clayton and Cain were sat on nice few years left on their contracts as well so had no real reason to leave Liverpool so I can’t imagine they’re cheap wages either

all I meant was it feels like years since we poached a starting vplayer from a rival club.

football has changed. Does anyone spend money like that these days in the bottom divisions?

FFP is pegged to revenue. Theirs is vast compared to everyone else with sponsorships, the documentary, merch sales. They can outspend everyone.

I wasn't directing it at you Batch just on the whole people will say we don't spend anything when even just 50k is a years salary for some league 2 players and really isn't the small amount we think it is

Hutton was a release clause and was the 50k guy right? Hopefully we can at least double that in a sale this summer as it seems he wants out/in demand. Agree a50k at this level is a big deal.

Liverpool lads woulda been nominal fees but big sell on clauses for Liverpool in future deals. We defo spent last year, won't go as far as saying top 7 budget and breaking the bank, but it was competitive but we just didn't spend it wisely and cut corners. Flynn strikes me more as tried and tested with a couple of gambles as opposed to only signing a handful of tried and tested and gambling on the rest.

Back to rumours anyway, not heard anything but would like us to make a move for Liam Shephard - had a real good stint at FGR, solid season under Flynn at Newport and decent again at Salford. Always has a decent game against us, can attack and defend as a wingback- solid replacement for Hutton. And without trying to come across as a 59 twitter  follower transfer rumour account created by a schoolkid making the most lazy links, I'd happily take Farquharson or Demetriou - very solid CBs.
