Using Gillingham's Conor Masterson then for instance, they announced his signature on 11th May - 'Conor Masterson has put pen to paper on a permanent contract at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
The centre-back will officially become a Gillingham player on July 1, when his current deal at Queens Park Rangers expires.' So Gillingham would then be liable for his QPR wages from 11th May - 30th June before his Gills contract starts on 1st July?
I assume so, also bear in mind that they can't officially sign him till 1st July anyway as the transfer window is 'slammed shut' until then.

So in theory if you want a player that desperately, if you can afford it you get the jump on other clubs that do their business post 1st July.

Why does his name ring a bell?

He played a handful of games for us on loan under Shezza on loan from QPR. (I think it was) He was pretty good but I think his loan was terminated when he got injured.

Fagan-Walcott released
I heard that we tried to sign him in January, but Sandro lost a sign-on % battle with Daniel Levy and so the deal fell through. It will be interesting to see if we go back for him, but I suspect he's probably not the kind of defender Flynn will be looking at.

Yeah, but also to many he was apparently the missing link on which the success or failure of last season floundered.
