On a slightly related note, early on during the play off season McKirdy and others were seen out and about semi frequently and then it stopped pretty quickly and they’d be out elsewhere like London. It’s a part of players coming here that I hadn’t thought about too much. For older pro’s it’s not much of an issue but for a younger player coming here from living somewhere like Manchester/London/Liverpool, it’ll be a pretty quick realisation that there’s not much going on here for that age group, can easily see how a younger player wouldn’t settle here on top of missing family and friends.

But unless a young player is at a big city club that applies to nearly all players. Can’t think there’s much going on in Donny or Grimsby either.

The issue of location and housing costs could be a practical issue in signing players - for someone based in (say) Nottingham or Sheffield there are a lot of L1/L2 clubs close by - so easy to move clubs without relocating at all. For older players, moving the family and having to sort schools for a 1 or 2 year contract and considering higher housing costs would mean they would want more to come to Swindon than move to a more local club. So potentially to sign the same players we would need a bigger budget than some other clubs because of our location.

His home was clearly in Doncaster. One look at his social media would tell you that.

So now Sandro has left, it seems the 'transfer leaks' have totally dried up. Co-incidence? Or is it that we are no where near ready to do any business yet?

From the outside feels like a mixture of both. Only thing I do know is, and this is the clubs words so if you don’t like it go moan at them, when trying to shift STs in April/May they promised early business… yet to see early business- but still just under 2 weeks till pre season so let’s see what we do. 9/10 bodies needed imo.

What's the definition of 'early' though? I suspect it's vastly different between club and fans!

We aren’t doing any business at the moment.

Strange things at the Circle K? I imagine much as a duck on water there is a shit load going on, just below the surface.

This is the thing, everyone’s interpretation of early is different. For me, the clubs that have been proactive and made signings like Donny - made something like 7, etc etc I see that as early business. Last season Shade (first signing?) signed week commencing June 20 and this was obviously seen as a late time to start doing business given season started in July last year (manager issues didn’t help) If we can get 5 or so before pre season starts that would be good as you’d think you’d start to have most of your match day 18 filled and you’ve not even trained together yet. Then fill in the gaps as you go on- Benda and Grant were signed on deadline day and they were two of POTS candidates that year. Just feel like it’s gonna be extremely hard to compete with the other sides this year.

Yeah I think we're pretty much on the same page to be fair. Of course to get fans on board and maybe to shift a few more season tickets, a couple of 'early' statement signings would be great, but seeing as we're not back for pre-season until the 26th June (I think that's correct) I guess playing wise, there isn't a lot to be benefitted by signing players much before that date. That said, perhaps there are other things happening behind the scenes before this date between players and manager - meetings, discussions about plans/tactics for the season ahead/player bonding etc whereby having the new players for this would be crucial. Also I guess for settling in periods for new players the earlier the better.
