No much point paying them for not playing/training before you have to. Especially to appease the dribbling morons.

Doncaster have done early business because they were shite and need near on a full rebuild.
Our squad isn’t crap or threadbare. It’s unbalanced & was managed by two awful managers last season. One of whom being the worst in our history.
Personally don’t think we need major work & id rather have a few quality additions than lots of quantity additions. Obviously I’d still like those quality additions in sooner rather than later but also haven’t looked at any of the signings made else were so far and thought ‘damn, that’s an excellent signing - I wished we’d signed them’

ha - quite. I know I mentioned this before, but some of the twitter responses to admin posts are pretty tragic. We'll announce a flurry of signings from July the 1st.
Indeed - it's what we do!

I don’t think we need major work either, and tbf me saying 9/10 is a lot to different to the usual 14/15 it ends up being. You could probably get away with less than 10, I just see it as two keepers, three centre halves, couple hard bastards at centre mid and a winger or two. Both Wakeling and Austin capable of scoring enough so positive we’ve got forwards already in given they are the most in demand commodity in windows. But yeah, sooner rather than later. Bang up against it this season with the other teams, every margin gonna count.

It's what I've been told.
Lovely stuff. Have a friend who worked in the biz who said the other day that there are financial incentives for signing clubs to announce deals after 1st July so ties up nicely with that.

For me what we need depends a bit on Flynn’s preferred formation. If 352 is his thing then for that we probably need a slightly more agricultural, leader type CB x2. A LWB (which could be a fit Devine tbh) ball winning midfield and then I’d say we are good to go with a 352. If we want to play 442 we need some wingers as we have none. If we want to play 433 then we need some wide forwards because to me all our three strikers are centre forwards down the middle. Obvious what ever we play we need keeper x2. So anything between 4-8 I’d say

You dont start paying them until July 1st as they are still under contract at the old club

I'm sure there is something obvious that I'm overlooking, but is there any reason why there would be such an incentive put in place?

Isn't it as simple as all contracts end on the 30th June so if you sign players before then you have to pay them?

You can sign them now and the contract starts July 1st? Hence why statements say ‘will join on the expiration of his contract at Club A’ etc

I felt exactly the same as well as I just thought that they signed a contract that came into effect from 1st July after their current deal expired and that was that. But apparently if you announce it prior to 1st July You have to take over the existing registration from the point you announce it which also impacts the from an insurance perspective, so there's little output by announcing prior to 1st July for the financial outlay.

So in theory if you want a player that desperately, if you can afford it you get the jump on other clubs that do their business post 1st July. Using Gillingham's Conor Masterson then for instance, they announced his signature on 11th May - 'Conor Masterson has put pen to paper on a permanent contract at MEMS Priestfield Stadium. The centre-back will officially become a Gillingham player on July 1, when his current deal at Queens Park Rangers expires.' So Gillingham would then be liable for his QPR wages from 11th May - 30th June before his Gills contract starts on 1st July?
