Until we know how Morris wants to set up it’s difficult to identify prospective recruits just by the position they play.

Personally, I wouldn’t want a CB youngster on loan when we have Minturn who looks capable.

Someone I spoke to yesterday seems to think Morris’s Chelsea sides always played 3-5-2.
No idea how true that is myself, or whether that would have been something the whole youth set up were instructed to do as is the way with some academies.

You'd think the Academy is told how to develop players - what the first team expects to see coming out the other side.

‘ He wants his team to play possession football, but with a purpose, not just knocking it around from side to side, but looking to pass forward and into players’ feet to get them on the front foot.

The other benefit has been the way he sets his team up. They have used a variety of 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-3 and even 4-4-2 when needed, meaning that he has a good experience and knowledge of different formations to adjust to situations. ’

People keep mentioning Joe but I’m sure someone said he’s injured until March.

Would still bring him (Joe Tomlinson) in. His agent was at Town yesterday (also is Wakeling's agent too) so who knows. I'm not ITK but Tomlinson would be good investment from March to end of season.

Think he might be OoC at the end of the year. I don’t think that the current establishment will bring in someone with a long term injury. The model appears to be - bring in, improve, sell for profit.

I base this on Sandro’s FBT. We’d like to keep him until the end of the season. We’d consider purchasing if that was the only way to do it. I interpreted that as getting his services as cheap as possible, which is what I would try to do.

I agree with all of that but highlighting this bit....long term injury?! March is but 4 weeks away. If he were out until May or Mid April fair enough. He's got a seemingly standard hamstring injury and will probably be ready to be phased in buy the final week of Feb, I would say.

Also there is the point of, at what point does speculating on trying to secure promotion come in X developing for profit via the model? What I mean is...let's say promotion from L2 to L1 is worth c£2.5m+ (extra ticket sales/solidarity payments/competition payments/TV etc) so where does the short term (and important) goal of achieving promotion via investing initial short term signings (see Austin) override/compliment "the model"?
That would still effectively turn a profit (eg Austin (wages), FBT (McD swap + cash to Town), Tomlinson (cash)) and the outlay seems relatively nominal matched against a potential £2.5m+ income and not majorly high risk if done as illustrated above.

It's all great for the longer term elements and trying to bring a sustainable talent conveyor belt towards ongoing fruition. Surely (and I hope they do) the board recognise the shorter term elements/options available, that could also bring profits and don't directly rely on selling players for profit at the first time of asking but actually relies on a promotion up the division(s), which obviously brings with it some greater rewards.

I hope the current board/Technical Director/Analyst etc aren't too blinkered on purely the "model" and can see that the two (or elements of both) can compliment one another and should go hand in hand  Hmmm

I guess I was meaning that there must be other young LBs out there who are ready to play now. They might be a better short term bet. Get them playing, sell them for a profit and then go for Tomlinson in the summer for free if he is OOC.

PS I liked what I saw of him and would like to see him in a Town shirt again.
