I think there’s a reason the club didn’t make a big song and dance re. those two renewals and I expect it’s because they were on our terms rather than the players’...
…other way round?

Except Louis Reed quite clearly isn't a league two player is he. Nor is Egbo.
JoJo you can certainly make an argument.
Egbo is a good L2 player and probably a poor L1 one. Reed is a decent L1 player in the right system. JoJo is a decent goalkeeper, especially at L2, but loses concentration.

Football fans and short memories aye. He was brilliant for us at start of season up untill afcon. Kept us in alot of games when are defence was getting peppered.
Not the same level after afcon. Ward more commanding but JJW the better shot stopper imo.
Yep,it was his brilliant form for us that got him called up in the first place

That attitude only works if you're Real Madrid or Man City. We are Swindon. Every player wants to leave us eventually. We are merely a stepping stone in a players career much like 99% of clubs in the world. I don't mind any player having higher ambitions as long as they stay professional and try their best whilst still contracted.

When players dont want to be at a club, they dont perform. I agree with letting them go (even if they are our best player(s)). Get what you can for them and build something better. As was said earlier, we were 6th in L2 because there were 5 teams who did better than us.

£1m to Charlton, anyone else we can have a reasonable discussion about a fee.

I think buying the best players from the league below alongside some established league one players is a sound strategy.
Correct...it can be a sound strategy.. However is it sound strategy to sign 4 players from a single lower league club who finished 7th? I would say not and I'm sure there would be an absolute meltdown if we signed 4 players from a single National League club........

I don't think it's the case though that the likes of Reed, Williams, Mckirdy etc are DESPERATE to leave. Just that given the opportunity to play higher and for more money, of course they'd be interested in having the discussion. That's just how the food chain works at this level. Loyalty is hard to come by these days. Tyrese Shade hasn't joined us because he wants to be here forever. He'll of seen we had a lot of the ball last season and think he can flourish here and eventually attract interest from a bigger fish. Heck if we sold everybody who'd be interested in moving elsewhere we'd only have Ellis, a crocked Lyden and a bunch of youth players playing for us!

If there is no release clause and Garner did say he wouldn’t try and poach existing players then they we can just refuse to deal with them, and hopefully we will have the balls to that. It’s almost a given they’d try and offload Davison as part of the deal so we should just refuse to do anymore business with them whilst Garner is their manager. If Reed wants to leave then I’m sure other league 1 clubs will come in for him.

Garner makes his move for Reed. According to Total Sport. Payne is fair game but Reed isn't. assume Reed is interested. Can only hope we price Charlton out

Maybe? Its been a long day… My point was that I believe those were contract extensions triggered by the club rather than as a result of negotiations and the players accepting an offer - hence the lack of fanfare.

No, I see what you meant now. I originally took it as they’d agreed the new deals on their own terms and the club just agreed stuff to get them to sign. Club triggering it (based on apps maybe?) makes much more sense
