Surely at the end of the day Wellens must have some say on which players he wanted to sign? For him to come out in the press and say how woefully short we are at Centre Midfield and then loaning out Palmer and not replacing him on Transfer Deadline day raised alarm bells for me.
With his very apparent ego I cannot imagine for one second Wellens would have accepted a managerial gig where he did not have at least a substantial say in who comes and goes. |

Wellens is Jewell's man. Sheridan is Jewell's man. While I am sure that recruitment is a team effort, it would certainly seem to me that the recruitment of the manager and the players is primarily Jewell's role. What Wellens wanted was to keep last year's team together. At some point that became impossible to do and they scrambled around trying to put something together. Wellens talked some shit and is a miserable fuck, but tactically he was superb (Newport at home last year the only glaring exception to that I can think of), he put energy back into the club and fun back in being a supporter last year. If fans don't recognise that, they need sectioning. |
