Telling quality defenders who could play football to lump it into the corners. Ffs he was shit and the players knew it. Mind you always willing to give a Manager time but we have the best one now for a very long time and I would go as far back as Hoddle.

That is a brave call given the current imponderables.

What made Hoddle great was what he went out and did on the pitch. Everyone was encouraged to raise their game to match him, and of course his presence attracted a great team. I can’t think who was arguably Wellens’ equal as a pure non-playing manager. Any suggestions?

Ardiles and Lou for non playing managers, although Lou did play a few games early on.

Get the team to lump the ball into the corners and then wonder why Doyle is shit. The recipe for great management. He could go far.

A lot of interesting bits in todays talk of the town.
We are still talking to Isgrove and Woolery it seems, yet arguably have signed replacements. Is there room if they both resigned?
No mention of Hope when talking about goals all over the team. Seems odd not to name check him. Is perhaps another of the ones they are trying to get out now. Perhaps this tallies with keeping Woolery and or Isgrove.
In a previous TotT he mentioned our budget not being near the cap, now he wants to shift some out so we have enough to potentially bolster in Jan. A classic Wellens misdirect.
I think we all knew Reid was gone based on being subbed at Ashton. Shame the lad has not kicked on at all. Can't believe McGilp gets paid enough to swing the needle on the budget. Outside of Hope, i can only think of Palmer. Can't see him shifting Broadbent while he is injured.
I'd like to know what we're talking to Woolley and Isgrove about! Unless we've offered them better terms which I doubt.

Plus both would want reassurances that they will play regularly

Apparently Southend have turned down a 600k bid for Stephen Humphreys from a league one club I can't see that being us if it's true

Wellens still has a lot to prove, hopefully he will, but Paul Sturrock would probably be our best all round gaffer in recentish years.
