Wellens still has a lot to prove, hopefully he will, but Paul Sturrock would probably be our best all round gaffer in recentish years.
He was only here a year but in that time he managed to win 26 out of 52 games

Apparently Southend have turned down a 600k bid for Stephen Humphreys from a league one club I can't see that being us if it's true
Think that should be in the other rumours thread, it's certainly not an STFC rumour.

It kind of is as we are/were supposedly interested in him... Twitter site reporting we are interested in Stephen Humphreys at Sarfend.

If they have been entertaining bids of £600k I would imagine any interest we had would have lasted all of a second, shows how pointless most of these rumour sites are.

Plus both would want reassurances that they will play regularly
Well, that’s not going to happen unless they each show some real passion. There doesn’t seem to have been much of that on show since they’ve been OOC.

Why would we be entertaining them is the question

Yeah, right! Sarfend have a HMRC bill to pay (again) by 9 Sept to enable them to have their transfer umbongo lifted. The bid was not from Bristol Rovers!

I mean I know that could be structured over years, but it seems a bit unlikely in this climate

It will be a classic Power structured deal. We pay you nothing up front, 10% of his wages, with you covering the rest and if we win the Prem you get the rest of the dosh! Deal or no deal?

So did Ossie...
He did? I don’t recall that. Still I stand by my comment.

Yeah - I think he played literally two games then must have decided he couldn't combine playing and managing. He did? I don’t recall that. Still I stand by my comment.
Of course - the point is totally valid. Both Macari and Ardiles were to all intents and purposes, non-playing managers. I just like to be a pedantic mother fucker occasionally. And I would say they were are best two as well. The way he is going though, I think Wellens is on the right trajectory as to be up there with them in time.

I think it's great that the current manager has so much support from this forum. I hope that the season starts well as goodwill can, of course, evaporate very quickly.
I think that he has done a great job but I would say that he has some way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as the club's greats.
