Perfection is not attainable

Isgrove wasn't the same player in the second half of the season.
Hes been shit since March Wink

Actually he started the season really strongly, his game at Orient probably the highlight, he has some great stuff "in his locker" though and can turn a game with one great run and cross, he is as all wingers are, inconsistant though.

Based on Wellens' job last summer, he can sack the lot off and start again as far as I am concerned.  As much as I'd love to see all our players retained from last season, if he can build a better team to succeed in League One, let him.

I get the feeling he is talking to agents as much as fans when he responds to questions. Fact is, we’ve got a lot of good players that we’re offering deals to, because they were here last year. They’re not the only ones out there, and they’re playing with fire if they want to fuck about this summer trying to get a half decent contract. Get a contract banked now before the Champ season finishes. Squads will be smaller next year. Wages will be lower. That’s inevitable. The agents who think they are being clever now may just find those offers will dry up soon and all their clients are playing at Barrow next year.

Players and agents need to start getting real and with reality.

Salary cap pending and clubs will have much reduced revenues potentially next year- about time they started being realistic

Exactly. Clubs have to budget as if there won’t be crowds for the start of next year. I’d imagine a lot of transfer activity will wait a long while yet. Getting to the end of next season as a solvent club would be a victory. I’m sure some won’t be. Probably the ones making the big offers now. Maybe some are banking on some form of government support.... but if I was Chancellor, and I knew how some of the clubs are run (chairman banking sell-on fees for themselves, for instance, rather than the club) I’d be pretty cautious about handing out public money so they can buy their next classy personalised plate / oversized watch, holiday villa or race horse.

Apparently, Bolton are still under an EFL embargo whereby they can only pay a maximum of £2k pw.

Surely, we’d offer him more than that.

I guess it depends how forced it is.
For example they could offer him a £2k a week as a flat rate and a £2k appearance fee to bump it up. Thus he £2k wages suddenly become £4-5k a week over the season, if he plays...

er, hope he's on a classic Wellens throw them off the scent ...

"Doyle gone, Rotherham had an offer for Yates that we can’t match, DJ has 19 other clubs after him and Isgrove’s agent is asking for more than we’re willing to offer. Fucking hell this has not gone to plan" (Marley)

Agree. Going on last season and Wellens using the "we simply can't afford/compete", "it's very difficult to bring/retain quality here at the moment", "I can't see us getting Doyle back" style cards, then I would say we are set to;

Re-sign Doyle (after a Bolton meltdown or the breach their embargo (that all sounds a bit Doidge to me)).
Sign Yates for £200k + add ons.
Sign DJ.
Re-sign Isgrove.

Grant made Captain. Doughty Club Captain. Ian Evatt spotted crying in Coventry indoor market, as Bolton become insolvent after Christmas.

Ahhh, could easily be a scene from Jim'll Paint It.  Pint

Not surprising, but Blackpool are the club that have, supposedly, topped our offer. Nixon reckons games are being played - good lad, Richie!

One thing, if a club gets 2 offers for a player and 1 is better than the other, doesn’t the player get the choice of where he goes? If Blackpool offer £50,000 more but Yates wants to come here, surely they cant make him go where he doesn’t want to.

Wages I could understand.

A club can accept any offer but ultimately a player has to agree terms, so if the player doesn't want to agree terms with the accepted bid then the selling club would then look at the next available offer. Even if that bid was slightly lower.

Happens often, I'm sure;

Selling club receives £1m bid from club A
Bid accepted
Player wants £10k pw + £100k signing on fee
Buying club A is offering £8k  +£50k s.o.f
Player says no thanks.
Buying club B bid £900k
Bid accepted
Buying club B is offering £10k +£50k s.o.f
Player considers offer
Player signs for club B.

Much more to it than that but, is a good chunk of the nuts n bolts. Washers, optional.

Rotherham have received a bid from another club,” he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

“We will put a bid in over the next couple of days but the only problem is that it won’t be as much as the other club has offered. It will be a little bit away from it.

“We will see if we can develop that in the next couple of weeks and then the decision will come down to Jerry.”

I take it Isgrove and his Mrs didn't like what they heard from Wellens.

His misses posted "Looool" not long after Wellens mentioned it last night, and Isgrove retweeted it. There appears to be no other context to the tweet and could mean anything as far as I can tell. That it's anything to do with Wellens' comments appears to be nothing but an assumption.

Somebody else tweeted something referencing Wellens' comments. I think I saw Isgrove reply with something along the lines of "which minute of the interview", but I can't find that comment now. If Isgrove had already seen the interview, why would he be asking that?

I might have missed something.

I like Isgrove but hes a luxury player, plays well in 30% of games thats either in terms of games or in terms of per game.

Hes got great skills but doesn't enjoy defending, not keen on tracking back but give him the ball and he can start great things.

If he stays then great if he goes then hes not that difficult to replace like for like, if his heart isn't in it for Swindon then goodbye and good luck.

Hes like Keshi....great on his day, a passenger on his poor days, not consistant enough he would struggle to get another teams in L1 that will be able to carry him on his off days. Probably off to Blackpool like every other Town player/target this Summer.
