Not heard that rumour, everyone knows they are under embargo and can only sign free agents for another season but no idea where that wage cap rumour has come from, sounds unrealistic especially where Doyle is concerned.
Nothing on any of the Bolton forums stating about an actual "wage cap" at all.
Right. I’ve finally got to the bottom of this. In September 2019, when FV took control, Bolton were handed an EFL embargo - unable to pay a fee, or loan fee, for any player and also had unspecified salary restrictions placed on players. This embargo ends September 2021. Regarding players’ salaries Bolton have to get EFL approval for any overspending on a player and prove that by offering such a salary or salaries they remain sustainable. Remember the Doidge transfer which got vetoed after they announced his signing. I’d imagine the delay in announcing Doyle and whoever else they have in the pipeline is down to obtaining EFL approval - which may, of course, not be forthcoming.

Didn't the whole Doidge fiasco happen way before FV took over?

Yeah, but it was an example of what is in place now.

I have read on the Bolton forums where the rumour comes from about the wage thing. Its a local journo called Mark Iles from Bolton news who it seems is like a go between the local rag and the club, he often spreads rumours with large elements of the truth but without ALL the details. He spoke out saying that there was a wage cap and that it is very "likely" to be nearer £2k than much higher, this was taken as gospel by all Bolton fans. Apparently there are ways around the embargo with individual player sponsorship deals as well that are no considered part of the wage cap. Doidge was banned from playing because Bolton refused to pay his £10k pw wage! a wage confirmed by Dale Vince.

Iles is the sort of journalist we can only dream of at the Adver, seems to write almost purely on the football and decent connections.

We used to have one that was pretty good and then he posted something Mr Power didn't like from the dressing room pre match giving a hint as to team selection and was then barred from the County Ground and then the Adver.

Although it was on the road to it's demise, regional journalism has changed a lot since Morshead and the Ranger announcement.
Power's disdain for the media hasn't helped the Adver's efforts (you only have to see the recent Adver alumni absolutely lapping it up when the court stuff came out) but it's not the reason why their industry is dying.
The BBC getting the scoops provides fans with bite sized/matter of fact information instead of 2 paragraphs of news followed by 5 paragraphs of bulking. It seems that's what people want in 2020.

Morshead was treated unfairly on an individual level by Power.
But the adver are still a bunch of cunts, as they were when Morshead was still there. Forever using dramatic headlines that didn't reflect the content, regardless of whether or not it might have a negative impact on the club. Yet they acted as though they were some kind of victim when their chickens came home to roost.
Fuck them, they're little more than a regional tabloid.

I like Isgrove but hes a luxury player, plays well in 30% of games thats either in terms of games or in terms of per game.
Hes got great skills but doesn't enjoy defending, not keen on tracking back but give him the ball and he can start great things.
If he stays then great if he goes then hes not that difficult to replace like for like, if his heart isn't in it for Swindon then goodbye and good luck.
Hes like Keshi....great on his day, a passenger on his poor days, not consistant enough he would struggle to get another teams in L1 that will be able to carry him on his off days. Probably off to Blackpool like every other Town player/target this Summer.
I'd suggest the lad needs to be careful, he has had 1/2 - 3/4 of a decent season, if he has another season in L1 finds his consistency he can be a really good player, BUT for him to leave now for another club after a patchy first season for a bigger contract it can surely ruin his career as if he fails no club at a decent level club would likely touch him. With salary caps on the horizon he may not get the big pay day afterall. But this could also be a game to push up the offer from Wellens to get a better contact.

There was an adver journo on that facebook group yesterday asking peoples opinions about season ticket refunds for an article. They got met with a fair bit of hostility including from that Ranford geezer

His misses posted "Looool" not long after Wellens mentioned it last night, and Isgrove retweeted it. There appears to be no other context to the tweet and could mean anything as far as I can tell. That it's anything to do with Wellens' comments appears to be nothing but an assumption.
Somebody else tweeted something referencing Wellens' comments. I think I saw Isgrove reply with something along the lines of "which minute of the interview", but I can't find that comment now. If Isgrove had already seen the interview, why would he be asking that?
I might have missed something.
I don't get the faux fury at this by some. It was a joke RW said he wants £50k a week and we've offered £48k. It's funny. She found it funny.

Which would make some people look rather foolish. But will they learn from it?

The £50,000 joke was amusing.
RW is very dry in his comedic delivery which is a dangerous game with football fans.

Having a read on the Bolton forums I had no idea how fucking moany they are and they seem to hate us all because a couple of fans questioned their ability to pay more wages for a player than we can and that we have said they shouldnt be allowed to sign players while theirs are furloughed (apparently) and that hit a nerve. Interesting stuff, bunch of grumpy Northern bastards who still think of themselves as a massive club and that Evatt will have them walking the league this coming season. Yes they are a big club but they are there on merit, they were relegated for essentially overspending, take your punishment. They seem to think they are forerunners in the chase for DJ too They also think they are in with a great chance of Andy Lornegan, Luke Garbutt, Jordan Graham, Nathan Thomas, Kieron Freeman, Callum Gribbin and Camerson Borthwick-Jackson all released by Premier League sides, set your sights high and ignore that impending £1.5m wage cap! none of them will come cheap and all have suitors in the Championship and L1 so why the hell would they drop to L2? gonzo said: ooo I do love it when everybody hates us haha
Couldn’t give a flying fuck about the Swindon’s & certainly the Barrows of this world, irrelevant little pawns we knock over as we press on back to where we belong
@tomdbwfc 15.15 onwards absolute salty bastards moaning about how are we paying compensation for managers hahahhah
some fuckers moaning that we can pay compensation even though we’re under the embargo
piss boiling bastards, we do what we want
Some saying what a set of cunts we are, giving out big contracts after paying creditors only 20p in the pound.
I think they have a point- we should be able to have whichever manager we want for free!!
As someone else mentioned in a few days ago, isnt the embargo in the form of a restricted overall budget, rather than individual players? So could be more than £2k for Doyle?
It's funny, the number of rival supporters who are seething at the Doyle signing, they think we are paying him £4000/week in wages, i can't quite get through to them we have an embargo until the end of next season of £2000/week.
Deluded they are. Fans in that league really have a cob on, i told them, if they have an issue, make themselves known when we come to town
I don't think that's the case, I don’t think anyone actually knows the answer though. I thought this was the case but others don’t. I can’t find anywhere the details of what the embargo means for wages.
That twitter bloke who is apparently itk said we are paying Doyle 5k a week and Crawford more than 2k so either he's talking out of his arsehole or the embargo details are just Chinese whispers.
I thought the embargo was that the EFL had to approve any contracts, to ensure that they were sustainable, rather than any particular monetary value.
I think they could take the arrogance award 2020! I have not seen one single poster on here moaning about them signing Doyle, they like to make out there are so hard done by. I think they need a hug and a wake up call to reality of being in league 2 with the Barrows, Morecambes and Macclesfields.
