So how have we gone from the 2 100% and 95% certainties to Wellens now having to get Anderson (as well as the other 2) off the books to free up wages for a striker?
Methinks he should have said nothing.
Me thinks his maffs are a bit shakey too.

Maybe we've joined the race for Lukaku. Big wages.

Listen to the Loathed Stranger podcast. He'd basically had deals arranged with players and at the 11th higher leagues clubs had come in and gazumped him. So, yes, there is an argument that he should have kept quiet, but it's quite nice to hear more than less from a manager I think.

My view is, it just gives some fans a stick to beat the club, or more likely, Power with.
Personally, if we could have signed Maynard for another £1k pw I think we should have found it within the budget - even if it meant not signing someone else.
We’ll obviously sign someone up front but now we know the quality of player Wellens was interested in it could be a bit of a climb down if it turns out to be someone seen as meh

Maynard is 33 in December and only had one good goal scoring season in the past 8 years. It was a no brainer making an offer, but I don’t think one we should have potentially broken the wage structure over.

Despite what some said it was always going to be the case that as a rookie manager Wellens was going to come up against what he wanted and what he can get.... however it's a learning curve for him, we'll all have to hope he's got this more right than wrong. As things stand I don't see this as an auto squad, however still 6 Days til Saturday, so perhaps yet time to pull a rabbit from the hat

Agree. This squad is only as good as the strikers we’re yet to recruit... and we need more than 1. Lang and Robinson, job done.

Whilst that's true, it is possible to phrase things in a certain way.... so that you don't leave yourself as a hostage to fortune. Last season Wellens highlighted the number of players around the squad who couldn't really be used, but he seems to have created a similar scenario. What you might call Will Henry syndrome..... why sign him if no intention of playing him?

He could have chosen his words differently and probably will do in the future. He's on a learning curve but he wants to be as open with the fans as possible which is admirable. I think he's doing OK.

How many of these do you think we have then?
