I’m not buying that it’s not what Wellens said he wanted,

Not specifically an experienced striker, but he said he wanted experienced players (who may yet still come).

Quote from: Wellens
I think we do need some older players in January, we need some players that have been there and done it.

“We need players that can almost gel the younger ones with the older players – that’s a very important part of having a squad

Alzate + Nelson?
Alzate yes but Wellens said they were trying to sign Nelson from Millwall on a full transfer.

But as yet not signed and injury status not known. Still optimistic though.

I love that House grew several inches in this discussion alone.  The joys of transfers at our level, nobody really has any idea what they will be like as none of us have watched them and any views from others clubs are usually null and void as they come from the oddities of life that watch youth football.

Nevertheless although the specifics may be beyond reach, until such time as we see these lads, the general ideas in the scheme of things largely hold valid.

PV... we've lost 2 and brought in 2, it isn't squad strengthening. That would have been keeping 2 and adding 2. The same sort of thing happened in 16/17, when the job lot of Chelsea kids came in, we had a little one match bounce of an unlikely win at Bolton, when we we had a bit of a buffer to the drop zone.... 5 defeats on the spin did for that and we dropped.

That buffer being 4 points, rather than the current 12.

How many loan slots do we have left now?

The rules changed this season I think you can sign up to 10+ loans but only 2 from any one club and only 5 can be included in the match day squad.

Good question, now Alzate and Nelson are gone 1 ? That is we can sign more but 5 in matchday squad. Assume we will keep  1 open while negotiating for Nelson

Loans: Adebayo , Wolf, House and Carroll

Indeed, not sure who was told that he was 5 foot 7 but thats pretty obviously not the case when you see him in the video. He looks of similar build to Charlie Auston....solid.

Lets hope he scores as often as Charlie Austin!

I was hoping you were going to tell us that a certain delight can be found in watching the Combination league back in the day.

I watched one youth game, when we got stuffed by Everton in the Cup semi final or something.  Spoke to an Everton fan/friend after that game and told him to watch out for Jeffers, he'd probably go on to play for England one day.  I was right, just, but I couldn't tell you the names of any other players that day and whether they made it or not.  What we know about these players is that they are young and that is about it.  We know most players from that level don't ply a decent career, but we have no way of knowing if it's more of the drivel we mostly get, or a bit more like a Given.

Even half his rate would be better than any striker we currently have!

Off topic a bit but I used to go and watch Newcastle stiffs play a fair bit when I lived up there as you couldn't get a match day ticket for love or money. One game a certain Robin Hulbert turned up on their team sheet on loan from Swindon Town, no idea what he was doing playing for them on loan when we were a Championship team (I think) and they Prem??
