Depends on the wage as well. He'll be commanding a significantly lower wedge than a couple of years ago.

Scroll up to DRS's comment above.
Ah missed that, apologies. No problems with Turnbull coming back with experience alongside him. Especially on a free.

Why would we want him back with our current defensive options. Would be a waste of a wage.
Possibly double up as a left back.. we haven't any and need 2. Jordan would be OK in there just doing defending. With Purkiss on the other flank, would be the land of giants in both penalty boxes. This is just speculating...

No, what he is saying is that you don't have to sacrifice the balance of the team to accommodate a prolific goalscorer. Most teams that are successful in L2 have goals scored by multiple players from different positions.
No the point is that an Ajose would take a hefty chunk of the budget... like say a Hylton did at Luton or a Collins at Crawley.
Both scored a decent number of goals, neither went up. It could be that to get the striker you forego a left back... it's the lack of the left back which may cost you promotion. What you need is a balanced squad.
I take both of those points...but.. if we could get Ajose without compromising the depth or balance of the squad, you're not going to be complaining are you?

The dynamic has changed with Turnbull. Two years ago we needed him more than he needed us. The roles have now been reversed. Meaning, we can now presumably get him on our terms. If we can do that, let's bring him in. All about the squad innit??

I haven't said I'd complain, rather that I don't think it likely.

Apart from being shite last season, we suffered from too many square pegs in round holes when injuries struck.
The more the merrier - especially when decent.

He'd give us balance on the left of centre, he's got time to improve, and we'd be taking a player that almost got us promoted from L1 into a L2 season. No brainer. Supposedly seen at Bradford over the weekend though.

I'll repeat that history tells us the 3 times we've been promoted out of this league, we haven't had a 20 goal striker.
In fact in Div 4, we've only ever had one 20 goal striker, Paul Rideout with 20 in 82/83. We didn't go up, nor would the 8th place have got us a PO spot had it been available.
Rather you need goals around the squad, with the front men working hard as well as chipping in. So 85/86 leading scorer, Charlie Henry a full back converted to midfield. 06/07 Christian Roberts and Lee Peacock both with 10. The PdC sseason Benson and Connell with 11 each.
I suspect that Flitcroft will favour graft over goals in his front men, hence NA not being his type.
Of course Benson scored those 11 goals in 22 so his strike rate was that of a 20+ goal scorer over a full season, which contradicts your point in some ways. No brainer for me if at all possible, probably going to be a lot of getting the ball in the box with DF so having a poacher of NA's caliber would win points, if the balance can be found across the rest of the 15ish regulars then we're good.

I have no problem with Turbull coming back, hes had another years experience, albeit with a relegated team.
Is a fairly local bloke and knows the club.
Would be used mostly as cover if he did come and wages would be nowhere as high as they were 2 years ago, we need bodies who can adequately fill in as well as press for a starting role...he is exactly that.
He had some great games for us, he also had some stinkers, thats the quality of player we are in for in this league, you don't get quality and consistancy or they wouldn't be in our budget.
As for Ajose....if it did happen I would be very happy and I think he would get 25+ goals which would aid any team in a promotion push, I just don't think he will come though but would happily be proved wrong on that.

I like this. TBH if we could get both Nickys that would be a coup. Maynard has had some issues in the past and until his move to Wet Spam was a 1 in 2 scorer even after a few barren seasons he is still on 1 in 3 goals per game.
