It is strange comparing similar players with vastly differing valuations.

Can't see Bradshaw being worth more than £750,000-£1m. Injury prone, maybe one-season wonder, did nothing at Shrews.

If it was me I'd maybe add £100,000 to what we eventually get for Smith.

I think whatever players Power may pay money for has to, in his eyes, have the possibility of being worth more when we sell them than what we paid for them.

Paying £750,000 for Bradshaw would be a real gamble and I think that reasoning may be the reluctance to invest too much in Ajose.a

Can someone explain what the point of these type (allegedly) derogatory bids to other league 1 clubs are?

We aren't exactly a step up from Shrewsbury or Walsall for their prized assets. And are extremely unlikely to be such a good payer we can buy their souls for a bag of silver in wages.

A couple of 100K is a reasonable amount for us to pay out, but imagine if that's what someone had bid for Luongo or Gladwin, we'd piss ourselves laughing and tell them to do one.

It feels a bit of a joke bid like that new bloke off Dragon's Den that's a cross between Theo Paphitis and Harry Hill occasionally does.
"I'll give you all the money, but in exchange I want 70% of the business and to be able to take your wife roughly from behind".
What odds would you have got for Bournemouth getting Matt Ritchie for £400k? You make a bid at the right time and anything is possible. If you don't try you'll never know....

matt Ritchie is a poor example unless Walsall are going bust.

we went with whoever paid the most cash up front, to stave off administration.

But how do you know what state they are in without making a bid? Things can change very quickly....

Walsall a chairman isn't that well liked apparantly keen to make a few quid. I got a feeling there is a bit to go with this bid. Personally think the player will go to a bigger club but don't think the fee will be as big as many think

Suppose so, just can't see it. Seems a bit pointless. Hopefully my "Byrne" form will continue and you can all mock me:)

Also, can see DRS point about injuries influencing fee. I'd think 500k, but I'd see that as too much.

But as big an issue is why would a player choose us in our current modus operandi?
  - A lower league player looking to move up a level - yes
  - A reserve prem/championship player looking to get more play time in a proper league - yes
  - A league 1 player looking to progress their career/earn more cash - can't see it being us right now.

Pretty sure we must have a striker lined up though. Letting Cooke go and freezing out Storey would be insane if that weren't the case. Regardless of what you think of their ability.

Think Ajose is more likely than Bradshaw, we might be able to sort a deal over wages with Leeds. Hope it doesn't involve Byrne though, would rather keep him than do that deal (if only it were that simple).

Byrne isn't going to Lids, and I don't think Ajose will end up here. If he does, we still need an 'asset' if you will. Maybe Bradshaw is aiming a tad high but a relative decent sized fee on a promising CF is a must if/when Smith goes, along with Ajose or a.n.other on loan.

Good points Batch. To me its a lot about potential value as well, as If LP thinks a players value will double or triple, I think he'll take a punt. Perhaps all this budget malarkey is a smokescreen to other clubs, chuck a low bid in, unsettle he player, and wait to see if anyone else goes in, then go back with a bit higher offer nearer the deadline? Doesn't seem like our mode at the moment, but who knows. Gamble big, win big (or lose if they're duff!) He easily spent a million last 18 months or so, not many, if any teams at our level do that.

Why sign Barry if eckersley is better. Both right backs. Are we that close to budget when we are still short up front. Agree it seems daft bidding for players who we have very little chance of getting. If smith goes would feel we would need a similar replacement. So if we signed a player like ajose we then need another forward. Understand the model the club is run under but is frustrating at times.

I think we could all hazard a guess as to why...

To be fair we thought it was frustrating this time last year. We were in the exact same situation apart from this time we have sold a few players for cash as opposed to high earners just leaving. I would hazard a guess that come sept 2nd we will be happy with our business and be in a stronger position just like we were the last 2 seasons. If we had scraped to the safety the last few seasons I could understand people's concerns but in the pitch we have progressed the last two seasons so don't really get it. Let's wait and see is what I'm saying I suppose

Swindon Town are close to signing Leeds United attacker Nicky Ajose.

I have no idea how reliable that account is
