I am old enough to remember one (of many) our crisis periods in the 60's - yes I am that old! - Bert Head came in and he was told basically you have got Keith Morgan and a bunch of kids, get on with it!  Made a couple of experienced signings and things didn't turn out too badly, got promoted within two seasons and brought on the likes of Hunt, Summerbee, Woodruff and the Don.

TBF Ronnie, Bert came in in 56/57, inheriting a crop of old hands and journeymen pros, who ended up seeking re-election. The following season though he managed to galvanise them to a top half finish and thus avoid starting 58/59 in Div 4 as it was created....59/60 started to see a few kids coming through and getting experience, and by 62/63 the policy promotion. So it took Bert 7 seasons of steady progress...now a manager like KMac is lucky to get 7 weeks.

Football now is short term stuff.....the Spurs link is a strategy which fits this very nicely...we get some players, at relatively low cost...as Spurs will pay a chunk if not all their wages. Without the link there's no way we'd afford to pay these lad's wages.

How this will play in the dressing room is anyone's guess...when people raise an eyebrow as to how much the likes of Caddis is on...these Spurs lads will be on that +plenty, when they've done fuck all in the game..

Do you think they will be what Caddis etc are on?

Don't know but I think they'll be on a few more quid than Thompson for example.

Appreciate you were asking Arriba but I'll add my twopenneth, re concerns:
 1. That we are missing out on better players from other clubs
 2. That we are releasing better players to accommodate Spurs players under the guise of having to reduce wages (which to be fair we clearly do)
 3. If Spurs are now dictating who we sign up then STFC isn't for me (loss of autonomy). Its tricky to give up though as my son loves coming to games..

I also realise there is no basis in fact to any of this. Its just concerns. For all I know we may start recruiting from elsewhere when Collins and Caddis go.

Batch you have posted literally the same things that have been going through my mind even point 3.

The next two weeks are going to be fairly key in terms of who else goes and who they're replaced by and who is named as manager. We really need a level of stability now.

As it stands, I'm still very meh about the start of the new season. I'm hoping a decent manager and a reasonable start to the season may change that.

My worry is that if the new manager comes from Spurs as well - Ferdinand, Ramsey - it will appear that they will be here just to oversee the Spurs talent at STFC.

Although, can anyone really see any of these loanees actually becoming a regular Spurs first-teamer?

And what happens if, by some fluke, we actually get promoted with these players - they will all piss off back to Spurs at the end of the season.

Be good to hear from Jed/Power just  what their thinking is behind getting players from just one source

No, but there'll be lads sat there, who'll be on a massive wedge, relative to our own players....these are kids, if you have experienced pros on a massive wedge, it might seem a bit more acceptable. It may be no problem, but most workplaces where people seem to be getting more than others, perhaps witout justification tends to breed resentment.

Hard to say...Nouble was on 10 grand a week...a kid who did fuck all before or since, but he was just one.

Hmmm. If it is him then choosing this time to appear on Twitter is quite convenient isn't it.

That'll be the club bending over backwards to help him out (the door).
