Yeah, but come on - Port Vile and Exeter are hardly the clubs anyone aspires to.

If we were run as well as Exeter, given our fanbase we'd be absolutely laughing right now.

Exeter are doing something of a Swindon. Started up top, now hurtling down at a rate of knots.

I’d Micky Hazard a guess that we’ll soon overtake both of Vile and Exeter.

If we were fan owned would be a version of Exeter? Not sure logistically how it would go but there’s a lot of clamour for us to go fan owned online, not sure it’s the route I think we should go down right now

Stepping stone clubs, test him at the next level above and if he kicks on then he will be in for a better move in the Summer.

It's why I get irritated by people who smuggly respond to any suggestion of going down the Exeter path with replies suggesting it lacks ambition, don't want to be held back like them etc.

With our starting base and a model like Exeter's, the output could be expected to be beyond what Exeter have managed to achieve.  Same as using the Crewe model or even Peterborough.  We have some infrastructure in place (a 14-15k capacity ground that we now part own and lease), we have crowds of 8k-9k while muddling around in the lower half of L2 and we sit in a location begging for positive news on regeneration and well connected.  Lets say we have the potential to replicate Exeter, just with twice as much starting Revenue (Exeter's Revenue now matches ours through shrewd transfer business).

Exeter did get lucky with Ollie Watkins (£7.2m), Ethan Ampadu (£2.8m), Matt Grimes (£2.4m) and Jayden Stockley (£1m) all sold in the space of 3 years.  (about £14m in total).

Which probably adds up to more than we have recieved in transfer fees in our clubs entire history combined.

‘Well run’ and ‘shrewd transfer business’ do not go hand in hand with STFC!

Lucky, or did well in recruiting and developing?  Maybe a bit of both, but our approach the past three years has looked destined to failure every time.  Power was a shit, but he did actually know how to identify talent that would develop and be worth something, just it went to him I guess.

That was kind of my point Aud, and I understand where you are coming from. Exeter and Port Vale should definitely not be clubs we aspire to become. But at the moment we're below footballing giants like Harrogate, Crawley Town, Accrington and Barrow. I just think with proper owners that know how to run a business, with proper football people in proper positions we'd expect to be leaving clubs like Exeter and Port Vale behind.

Current aspiration level set to "staying in the league".

Thats as high as mine have got now.

Is that lucky though? Or signs of a properly run club with a good scouting network?

I maybe wrong but isn’t Young at a really big club now who sooner or later will get it right on the pitch unless of course they don’t want him!

Spot on. Peterborough are a team I look at and think, why on earth aren't we doing what they are doing.

Don't they also have some sort of link with Fulham to get loan players from them as well? Kind of like what we have with Franchise at the moment.

We are doing what they do, we failed to name a relevant person on the board the same as them.  Wink
