Speaking of elusion, Benn Ward recalled by Burnley, hopefully frees up some wages to go with the loan spot.

I am at a loss with this one. Ward has been one of our best players. What are we playing at?

Of our defenders, I'd say he's made the least mistakes.

Out of the blue that. Damn.

Nh, good luck to him. Didn't quite look ready but then again was he ever fit?

It's been discussed a few times, but what are people's thoughts on the season long loan with the recall option? Obviously the club that owns the player holds the trump card as they get 6 months to see how the player performs and then has the option to recall with a view to loan again to a club in a higher/lower division, (depending on performance clearly) recall with a view to sell, or recall with a view for them to be involved in their first team/

Obviously the recall of Kemp and Young for us has been massive but was fairly obvious for a while that it was going to happen but we now have a huge challenge to replace them for the second half of the season.

Would it make more sense, for continuity purposes, to make season long loans have no recall facility? There would still be the 6 month loan option so if Franchise/Bradford wanted they could have sent their players out for 6 months and all parties would know where they stand when the loan expired. Or does it not really matter either way?

How many MOTM votes did he get?

Er, 1. FGR away for a sub cameo. Someone always votes for subs, even if we win.

I did read the other day that MK got Jack Payne with no recall clause. I wonder if that was Charlton just really not rating him or MK not being as stupid as us on Kemp.

I heard it depends on what % of the players wages you pay.

Have to cover a certain amount to have the right to hold on all season. Could be nonsense, but seems logical to me.

Like anything in life- pay peanuts, get monkeys.

I wonder if it's just the "loaning out" side that typically have break clauses - we certainly couldn't get rid of Jephcott last January and it wasn't for lack of trying!

It can work both ways as well. It’s less common but there can be clauses where the “loaning in” side can terminate the loan.

Becomes more difficult when factoring in wage contributions and loan fee’s so they usually dress it up as a “review period” in January regardless of which side (or both) can do the terminating.

The recall clause helps the “borrowing” club when the loan doesn’t work - Ben Ward this year, Kovar and Gilbert in previous years being examples  of players few Swindon fans grumbled about leaving in January, and also in cases of long term injury - Ben Ward and Mahoney this year, Dan Ballard in 2020 is another.
We all grumble about losing the successful ones and forget the others, for obvious reasons really.

Last year we got the best of both grumbles with Jephcott - we spent all September worrying that he'd be recalled in January and then all January worried that he wouldn't be recalled in January Cheesy
