With hindsight
Charlie Austin should never have come back here. He was struggling big time at Brisbane Roar and it was obvious he would not survive the riggers of English football and especially the expectations of a Swindon fanbase that previously adored him.
Bad decision by the player and the club.

There have been so many bad decisions being made and can't see how the club can survive without major change.
Everything can alter with a cash injection and good management... but where and when or if this is going to happen is anybodies guess.

Well they 'tried' before the summer window ended and couldn't afford them then, so they were never likely to afford them now. Young was a complete gamble lets be honest, and it worked. He scored a lot, but in patches.

Kemp was the one where the signs were there post Pool loan and with 1 year left you would have thought that was the investment worth making at the time. Clem has to invest to flip players, its not going to be done on free transfers. Kemp may  have cost 200k max in summer, but he is worth 500k+ now already, and thats money lost because we didnt invest.

Anyway, the positive is it showed Flynn could spot a player. And i think overall he has done okay, UGM and Kokolo have something, so does Kinsella (a better attitude than all our other midfielders). Ben Ward and Genesini seem like panic buys for bodies, that cost next to nothing.

So maybe he is worth another window. But its a real worry.

I think thats why its laughable we lurched from the director of football model to the manager doing it all after Sandro. The model wasnt the problem, the people were. That model with Ben Chorley worked, and would still work now. Then we wouldn't have worries about a manager wasting a window as we are about to.

The other major concern and failing was Clem stepping in to buy Austin. He scored some goals last season, but overall its been a bad decision in my eyes. He starts every game even though he doesn't deserve to, as if there is something else going on there, or they dont want to deal with his attitude when dropped. If Clem has stepped in and made this sort of decision before, who knows what will happen in Jan.

Franchise asking price in the summer was significantly less than 200k I'm led to believe. I know hindsight is wonderful and not all transfers work of course, but had we paid what Franchise wanted we'd now be fighting off league clubs, left, right and centre and would have made a very tidy profit to be able to replace Kemp.

Still, we've put Kemp in the shop window for Franchise and he'll almost certainly be sold on for a reasonable fee for them.

As the Manics once sang, everything must go.

Any idea where? I'm guessing Tranmere or somewhere like that?

Austin isn't the reason for our dire situation ffs.

I mean, obviously. It's not his fault we don't use him correctly and it's not his fault we are paying him what we do.

But ask yourself, is his contribution worth £3500 a week? which according to many online sources and Football Manager is approx what he's on.

We could get 3 bodies in for that. Not great bodies but professionals none the less.

Indeed, although I suspect Clem is thinking...

"I want to fly and run till it hurts,
Sleep for a while and speak no words
In Australia"

There's a lot of Manics content out there for Clem I think.  Lie in the Summertime, perhaps.

Wasn't there rumours he wasn't settled/was home sick?

A real shame, because when he first appeared he looked like a real prospect - but he's massively stalled his career through injury (?!). But if the above was true then best all round.

The whole squad need culling somewhat. Whether we can trust Flynn to rebuild it is another matter.

We need some beef - at the back, in the middle and up front.

Clayton and Macdonald had the makings of a really good partnership during that little unbeaten run we had under Lindsay.

Seems like so long ago.

The rumours that he hadnt settled were based on the fact he went back to Liverpool during the off season.

So, whilst some fans take that as he hasn’t settled and wants to leave
I take it as a 22 year old whose probably never lived away from home going back home to his friends & family during his annual leave.
