6 appearances in total, but a total minutes played of just 40 mins.

If ever there was a transfer deal that seemed to make no sense for any party involved, the Wakeling one was it.  Did his agent have some dodgy photo's of someone at Peterborough?

Really? Flynn was after a CB. Maybe needed to sell a player to be able to afford it.

We also still needed a 4th forward, who was probably third choice at the time.

Peterborough didn't seem to need him, so why put in a last minute bid on deadline day for a development player?  You would wait until the pressure to a deal was not on, in January for example.

Wakeling didn't need the transfer to get playing time.

It was so tight to deadline, there was little for STFC to be gained, beyond the pure finances of the deal.  I mean, it does make sense if we were short of cash, which given the later issues only three months later, would seem the most likely.

Just saying the recent revelations mean you can view an otherwise daft player deal through a very different lens.....

We were in for Edwards way before Wakeling was sold

Yes, but maybe money was an issue? Maybe also it was the plan to use the Wakeling wage to pay for an OOC player.

Maybe we were under pressure to cut costs and Wakeling was the only offer that came in? Maybe Peterborough knew we were desperate for cash and took the only asset they felt we had?

I guess we’ll never know.

Said this at the time and will say it again.

Peterborough usually buy the ‘next man up’ I don’t for one second think they bought Wakeling for this season - maybe not even next season but they do have a great track record for having already acquired a players replacement before they’ve gone…

I’ll be amazed if he isn’t back here on loan in Jan though

I get Peterborough signing a player like Wakeling, at some point, just not the way it happened.

And with a long contracted young striker the ££ signs on his head probably are bigger than anyone else in the squad, which is how we seemed to play the summer recruitment game this time. January is going to be very busy, especially when the loan players go back and we look to shift Khan, Cain, Hutton and Shade. (I don't know if that will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me)

He started first league games of the season.

It was supposed to be Austin & RHM at Colchester. RHM got injured then Wakeling & Austin started against Crewe but Wakeling came off injured and 4th choice Jake Young came on baggged a goal and hasn’t really looked back.

We are always a selling club regardless, if an offer comes in chances are it will be accepted regardless of who the player is, you felt with Clem that maybe we would not take the first offer but would negotiate and get decent add on's and then reinvest, but now we are short of money who knows where any fee would go, whereas with Power it was take the money and run.

And don't forget we have mortgaged future payments on players by loaning money on the back of them, so whereas we maybe due x amount in y months, we are now not due anything as the money was loaned up front.

Does it? We hardly have any players. They're all going to get played at some point even if not rated.
