I’m not sure that Kemp is what we need. He is the type of player that is good in a good team. He has been good in our side when someone has been good around him. There have been some great balls from Austin, for example, that have unlocked defences and let his quality shine. But, we have too many substandard players around him.
Our problem is Kemp is the only ‘quality’ we have in the team.
Respectfully disagree, but agree that Kemp is the best of the bunch. Mahoney, Dokes, FBT, Hutton, McEachren (in spells) and Young all have enough quality to warrant their place in a side good enough to be at the right end of the table, maybe even add Khan to that at a push - that is 8 of the first 11. But expect them to play every minute of every game, including JPT in some cases, it's no wonder they look tired and haven't performed to the standards we would like. Also you have to bring into the equation that they are following the game play from the manager which by his own admission is a high press all action style, and we are expecting them to do that all season and don't expect their standards to drop? Again, i don't think there was anyone was saying we were lacking quality when we were pumping 6 past Crawley.

I couldn't give a fuck about comparing us to Crewe or any other team in this league tbh, i don't know what their schedule has been like and I haven't watched any of their games. What I do know up until October, we could and should have been on maximum points. The reason we weren't was because we dropped points because we couldn't defend a lead, or because we couldn't beat 10 men. A big reason for that was having nothing on the bench to freshen things up, therefore we had certain players playing every minute of every game and not being able to give them a rest, which has partially resulted in us playing some of the better teams in October and not only looking completely knackered, but still not being in a position to change it from the bench.
I am basing my opinions on what I have seen watching Swindon every game this season, not on picking another side, looking at the table and their stats and using that as an arguement to prove that our team are crap at football. Were you saying our team where crap at football in Sept or in August, or are you captain hindsight in disguise?
Right. So when provided with some evidence that a team with a smaller budget than us and who play a similar system on paper can still get results. Dismiss that. Fair enough. I don't know if you've noticed, but we haven't been able to defend ALL SEASON. This isn't the consequence of being tired. Yes the lack of depth doesn't help, but ultimately we were flying high early on because we were outscoring teams in basketball matches. Did I enjoy it? absolutely. It was great to watch us go forward, but even the Crawley 6-0 could've been so different had we rightfully conceded first. And Sutton (the worst side in the league) scored 3 against us with relative ease. My attitude towards the end of our unbeaten run was waiting for it to inevitably implode based on the evidence I had seen so far on the pitch. To be fair - I didn't expect it to be this soon, nor this bad. I had hoped for us to still be in the playoffs before January. Still possible yes. But unlikely now i think we'd all agree. LSPOD summed it up. Even before the Notts County game, this season just didn't have the same *feel* about it even when we were unbeaten as say a Wellens season. This was always unsustainable.

So we are in agreement then. Not being able to defend is different to labelling a team crap at football. Our defensive frailties this season have not been down to the indivuals being picked (in most cases) it's been down to how we are setup and what we are asking the defence to do, defending is secondary for our defence apart from Mahoney and Brewitt. So my point still stands, we do not have a team that are crap at football, we have a team that is not being setup right, and is fucking knackered due to having no reinforcements to be able to change it.

But then you can go into the argument of: Was a big part of why we were able to score so many goals early on and overload teams because of the marauding centre backs. Let's say you reign them in. Then you replace McEachran with a holding midfielder. We've now become more solid but at what cost? I disgaree slightly about it being purely the system and not personnel. We have no leaders in our side. Just because somebody isn't a holding midfielder doesn't mean they can't snuff out danger. If I'm Brewitt, I'm screaming at Khan or George to fill in if the other goes wandering. If FBT goes, Doakes needs to stay back. It's not rocket science is it. It's a numbers game. Perhaps Edwards would've organised us better. We will never know. Unless you think the gaping holes we leave in midfield and the pathetic numbers we have back on transitions is purely tactical and working as intended by Flynn.

Back and forth here, I agree with everything you say in your last post, we are in agreement. What I don’t agree with is where you started off “great. We have a tight knit group who are crap at football” and by the way, this started off about a discussion about bringing Harry McKirdy back by the way. If you think the answer to our problems is Harry McKirdy, then there is no help for us. My opinion is, we are not crap at football, we are not using the players we have correctly, we don’t have anyone to bring in to change it and based on what we have we are not setting up in a smart way tactically or in formation. That is it. Flynn needs to address the defence and defensive midfield areas, but he can do that (well improve it) with what we have today, what he can’t do is make changes outside of the first 13 because the cupboard is bare.

don’t you have a point somewhere that you are trying to make that you need to repeat endlessly until you get somebody to bite?

That if you’ve watched all of Swindon’s games you must have watched at least one of Crewe’s games.

Well look at that, never even crossed my mind. For somebody that likes to portray themselves as being knowledgeable about fucking everything, you really struggle to read and understand ironic replies to your posts don’t you?

I do wonder if they’ll find a way to shift Charlie off the books. Must be our highest paid player by some distance.

And you post like the TEF version of Christian Kostiuk on a daily basis, so what’s your point?
