And that is what we've missed. Leaders across the pitch. MacDonald being made club captain was a poor decision last year.

I'm sure his missus would be quick to throw her toys out of the pram also on twitter.

I've no preference massively, I think you could probably make a case for both Austin and Thompson to be club captain. Obviously Harry Kane is your high profile striker captain, but I do like the idea of a Centre Back to be captain. You've obviously got FBT as well who would have a case also.

As long as egos don’t clash then I’d be more happy having an issue of too many options for captain than not enough like we’ve had recently. Leaders are important and hard to come by. Austin, Thompson, FBT and a couple more with the same mindset to drive high standards throughout the squad would be very beneficial.

Absolutely. And of course this is pure speculation we are signing Thompson but I agree with both points made, last season's team had a severe lack of leaders sadly.

Not sure Charlie Austins ego would allow that
I hope it would. I think Charlie was a lot less effective than he could have been for us last season and that was largely down to him being captain. He was getting involved in everything that was going on all over the field.

If I was Flynn I would sell it to him that I want him to just concentrate on getting the ball in the net and that not being captain was in no way a knock on him. The level that he has played at and the experience he has means he will always be seen as a leader of the team by the rest of the players and he doesn't need an arm band to prove it.

So yeah, if we sign Nathan (and of course it is a big IF at this stage) I would give the arm band to him. If we don't sign him, then maybe give it to FBT. But in doing so I would make sure that it was not seen by anyone as some kind of demotion for Charlie...

100% this.

I would argue that successful teams in any sport have leaders throughout.  Who wears the armband should be largely irrelevant.  The leaders on the pitch don't look to who has the armband for guidance and organisation, they do it themselves.

Not forgetting that clubs do often have one each of these;

A Club Captain
A Matchday Captain
and
A Vice-Captain

I'd go with;

Club Cap   = Austin
Match Cap = Thompson
Vice Cap    = FBT

Oh and Bianca can kindly just shut her gob. Like having a tepid version of Coleen Rooney or Rebecca Vardy  Crash

Would take a swap plus cash for Colclough or Grimes from them TBH.

Maybe Ollie Palmer back? Which I wouldn't mind too much.

Matt Palmer was your classic 'modern nothing midfielder'. No idea what he brought to the table.

Definitely don’t need another lightweight dwarf in midfield.

Wonder if we will be sparse with the loanees again this season.

Almost certainly to have players lined up and ready to sign once holidays are finished. Nathan Thompson first I reckon.

Would be great if they signed Nathan and Louis Thompson. Bag's of experience, leaders on the pitch and players that would want to play for STFC

Louis would be to much of a risk sadly with his injury record
