Agreed, Angus Macdonald could have been the "cult leader" that was badly needed. For reasons he is not.
Morrison or Flint would have had more chance. The chappie from Middleboro would have be a better option. But he was not signed.
We have a vanilla team with no spice. Yes a focus on youth which could be an investment in the future, however we are living today.
Currently playing in the bottom division of the football league and still getting 8k supporters. Fantastic
To Clem Morfuni, if correct that you are making decisions with investment on the field it is pleasing. I can not believe SL would try to veto your suggestions with CA.
This situation can not continue and I sure it won't.
Swindon supporters deserve more than what we are currently getting.
The team sheet for last weeks Wimbledon game was simply "Not fit for purpose"
In his defence I would say that MacDonald could still be THAT player this season, he started to hit form before his injury and he has lost very few aerial battles just his long passing was a bit hit and miss.
For me Austin would be a no brainer, come in do his badges and also contribute on the pitch too hopefully, hes a bubbly personality to have around the dressing room too.
If Lindsey has thrown his toys out of the playpen then I can sort of understand that but why the fuck wouldn't you want an experienced goal getter to come in and contribute in the one area we are badly lacking in?
That is unless it means we sign Austin and cannot afford any more new signings in January to bolster our threadbare squad, in qhich case I fully appreciate his concerns.
But I cannot see how we are close to our playing budget yet when you look at the team, full of very inexperienced player and a couple of very good players, this doesnt look like a "break the budget" type of squad to me, it looks like we are well under as most of the new signings have been from free transfers and lower league/same league teams and many are under the age of 24.
We need that spark to turn us from a nice passing but ultimately very ineffective side to a promotion challenging team and to do that you need goals, if Clem is genuine about a promotion push then I fully back any attempt to make that happen.
As it stands the football we play is nice tippy tappy at times but with little or no killer edge, much too much passing around rather than having a shot or trying a through ball into the "danger zone".
For me we still need one more decent midfield creator and at least 1 proper left sided winger who can cross, I would probably prefer that Hutton is pushed further forwards into a genuine winger role so he can concentrait on getting balls into the box and sit Lavinier in behind him in the more defensive role.
Oh and push Iandolo back to a more central role when needed rather than as a winger where this season so far he has been woeful at times and his crossing totally lacking which has always been his strong point when out wide.
Also I think Wakeling needs to have the goalscoring pressure taken off him with another striker as Wakeling has not been the player he was at the start of the season.
I personally prefer him out wide cutting inside but I like us having 2 central strikers.
Wakeling has only managed just a single goal in his last 13 games after scoring nearly 1 goal in every 2 games in his first 9 games. He also cannot play as a lone striker for me and we cannot rely upon him when Jephcott is injured and Adeloye seems so far from a starting slot.
