I would not be concerned if Austin doesn’t rejoin us. With my support of STFC going back to the late 1960s, I remember Don Rogers at his peak - as well as his return in 1976. With hindsight that was a mistake - injury and a hip problem meant he was a shadow of his former greatness. In considering whether to sign him, I would be concerned that Austin’s injury history makes a similar outcome quite likely.
It’s possible he could be useful in a coaching role with young strikers like Wakeling and RHM, but on the other hand, the evidence of Ronaldo at Man U highlights the damage a fading superstar with a big ego can do - albeit helping shirts sales in the process. I’m not saying Austin would be like that (I don’t think any of us knows) but the risk is probably there.
Someone who can do what Simpson did last season for us would be my preference.

Can’t be bothered to check back. But just found this on Twitter from Charlie Austin.
Thank you @brisbaneroar for all your support over the last 6 months. The management, the lads & the fans have been fantastic, & still supported me even during my deliberations to head home. I've loved the Aleague and hope it continues to grow. Family first ,football second❤️

Would love him too but Not bothered if he doesn’t come back here. Can’t see it myself. This is Swindon town after all, hardly big hitters who splash cash.
Would however be rather pissed off if it was Rovers and Barton where he ended up, as is it’s not rocket science that we’ve been offered him also.
This club needs more than Charlie Austin to fix up. He’d be a great start.

As I understand it, CA’s first wage ‘suggestion’ was rebuffed. He came back with a lower ‘suggestion’ as an act of good faith.

These are very much in the know, from the horses mouth quotes that you have been writing. I'm sure you wouldn't say how you know these. But can you confirm that what Ryan Whelan says is definitely not true?
Yes, I believe his quotes are untrue.

That is a shame. DMC However, the DOF and SL have now increased the pressure on them and the team to perform 10 fold. Scott, ask Garner football is a results business and I for one hope you succeed and become a legend at the club.

If Lindsey and Sandro took a punt on Tomi Adeloye who aged 26 had never made an impact previously at a couple of football league clubs and is yet to score a goal at league level.....
Computer said yes for Adeloye though for CA.....

think Austin is a difficult one as we have targets and it is not right for me to comment on specific players. He is a legend here and has had a great career. Is he someone we would want to sign? Of course, if we could then we would. Scott Lynsey in today's press conference
