Looking through old articles on Simon Ferry it would appear that he signed a 4 1/2 year Contract will Celtic in 2006. I can't find any reference to him signing an extension. Surely this means he's out of contract?
I would imagine because he was with Celtic in his youth there would be a fee involved but i'm not sure if this is what STFC are trying to negotiaite otherwise wouldn't it be settled by a tribunal?

a tribunal only happens if a fee cant be agreed between the clubs.

What a kerfuffle.
Surely Swindon and Celtic must know each other well enough by now to sort it out.
If a mate wanted buy a car that I wanted 5k for and he offered me 3k, Id say "No mate, but 5k and it's your's".
Don't forget of course that buying a footballer is exactly the same as buying a car.

It was a 4 1/2 year extension on his first pro contract, which would probably mean it will expire in 2011.

I think you are right. Which would be why a loan would be pointless to Celtic as he'd be worthless/near worthless at the end of it.

Cheers that makes sense. I didn't realise he already had a pro-contract in place i thought the 4 1/2 years was the deal offered to him after coming through the ranks

Notts County after Ritchie as well i think aren't they?
Looked alright when here before but didnt play much. My concern as i've said before is getting the balance between footballing ability and size. Ferry, Caddis, Ritchie, all small players. The game we got into trouble with last year (both Millwall games) were because we couldnt match them physically. Doesn't mean i want a team of Pericard type players but still, we need some size. Ball is a slight lad as well isnt he?

Yes, didn't Danny make a comment at the back end of last season saying we needed bigger, more physical players to compete with the more athletic opponents

And a few others towards the end of the season. It wasn't just Ferry though, I thought Greer looked a bit dodgy in some of them as it was in the more physical games that he was conceding the free kicks. I reckon we'd have gone up in 2nd if we'd signed Prutton or even Tudor-Jones when they were available on loans as either would have pretty much solved the problem and got us the few extra points we needed.

Vine would potentially be a great signing and I'm sure there would be a fair few clubs after him. No idea whether the injury has ruined him though.

Yeah, obviously I have no idea what his fitness is like these days either. Having said that his injury was a double leg fracture. Whilst thats obviously serious, players tend to get over that these days. Knee injuries are worse. I think a championship club will take a punt on him anyway
