its irrelevant - if anyone is to blame in us going out its eriksson for taking 4 strikers, two of which were fit, and one of which has never been capped.

rooney's effort in getting fit shows his dedication alone - you can't blame him alone for getting sent off for us losing.  have a go at ronaldo instead for being a winging homo shitty nob, would like to see the first man u training session of the year when those two get together...

that is no way a stamp. not in a million years.

he was trying to get his ballance. there was no mallace at all.

Look at that cunt Ronaldo go straight to the ref and demand he be booked etc.

what a cunt

Also if you watch the ref all he is doing is pointing for a free kick and wasn't even going to book him.

Never has a nail been so firmly hit on the head. Absolutely spot on. And for playing Rooney on his own up front.

Who's up for a march round to David Dein's house to ask he personally repays the £25m quid the FA wasted on this chancer? Think how many clubs that could save in the next few years.

half a million each to all the clubs in leagues one and two would do !!  fantastic idea.

I didn't think Rooney had meant to do it, but the first time I saw it was at about 3am and I was a little wasted.  Either way Rooney does need to learn to harness his anger/aggression.  If you can learn to it is a formidible weapon.

Yes all of this went through his head during this 10seconds, he carefully thought about each option, and after weighing them both up he decided to select the second option

Yes, just as I assume options like that go through your head about commiting violence on your work colleagues when they upset you.

He isnt at all, The referees whole actions change the second Rooney pushes Ronaldo. Hes stood there not even makin eye contact with rooney, seems to be waiting for the Portugese player get back to his feet. He does nothing to even suggest he was going to book Rooney. Then the push happens and he instantly begins to  push him to one side and started reaching into his pocket. That what i saw anyway, what does eveyone else think? Granted you cant read the referees mind so he may well have sent Rooney of for stamp but you cant conclude that from what the footage suggests.

Thats what I saw too. However, he was stupid stamping on the bloke as he could have got sent off for that. Then, having gotten away with that, he was even more stupid for laying hands on Ronaldo, which was the second potential sending off offence (I believe thet the ref thought he 'struck' Ronaldo). That one he didn't get away with.

I can forgive one petulant act. But for christ sake why the hell didn't he walk away and leave Ronaldo to get a booking !!

The bit we haven't mentioned is the part Ronaldo played. I'm so p*ssed off with his actions. I hate cheating in any sport whether it is for or against you. I don't like the fact that Cole could get the Oscar sometimes.

However, if Rooney had done what he did, Ronaldo wouldn't have done what he did. The game probably wouldn't have gone to  penalties as I believe that England would have come out as 1-0 victors. But, we'll never know now will we.

Not a stamp?

Rooney 'gobsmacked' by red card

Rooney was stunned when he was shown him the red card
Striker Wayne Rooney said he was "gobsmacked" to be sent off for a stamp on Ricardo Carvalho in England's World Cup quarter-final against Portugal.
And he insisted he was not angry with Cristiano Ronaldo, who appeared to encourage the referee to send him off.

"I want to say absolutely categorically that I did not intentionally put my foot down on Carvalho," said Rooney.

The 20-year-old added: "I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano but am disappointed he chose to get involved."

England ended up losing 3-1 on penalties to Portugal having drawn 0-0 after extra-time - with Rooney's Manchester United team-mate Ronaldo slotting in the winning spot-kick.

Sven-Goran Eriksson's men played the final hour of the match with 10 men after Rooney's sending-off, but in a statement released on Monday, the striker said: "When the referee produced the red card I was amazed - gobsmacked."

He added: "Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed to have been sent off in a World Cup finals match for England.

Truly if there was any justice, England would now be preparing for a World Cup semi-final

Wayne Rooney
"I remember the incident clearly and have seen it several times since on TV," he said.

"I am of the same opinion now as I was at the time that what happened didn't warrant a red card. If anything, I feel we should have had a free-kick for the fouls committed on me during the same incident.

"If you ask any player - and indeed almost any fan - they will tell you that I am straight and honest in the way I play.

"From what I've seen in the World Cup, most players would have gone to ground at the slightest contact but my only thought then was to keep possession for England."

Rooney hailed his England team-mates who fought valiantly to force extra-time and penalties despite being a man down.

"I thought the England lads were awesome after I went off and the effort they put in was amazing," he said.

"Truly if there was any justice England would now be preparing for a World Cup semi-final. Sadly, however, that is not to be in 2006."

Earlier on Monday, Ronaldo insisted there was no ill-feeling between him and Rooney.

"At the end we texted each other and between us everything's been cleared," he said.

He added: "The things that have been said regarding me and my team-mate and friend Rooney are incredible.

I'm not a referee and I don't have the power to send a player off

Cristiano Ronaldo

"He wished me the best of luck in the World Cup. He told me we had a great team and that if we continued to play like this, we would go far.

"He wasn't angry with me and, moreover, he told me to completely ignore what the English press has said, that all they wanted was to create confusion, but we are already used to that."

Ronaldo insisted he was not to blame for Rooney's dismissal, despite appearing to wink at the Portuguese bench once the red card had been shown.

"I am not a referee and I don't have the power to send off a player," said Ronaldo.

"I had nothing to do with the fact that the referee showed the red card."

Not that it matters much but it's hard to call.  He's definately looking where his boot is going but by the same token if he's to remain on his feet there's not really anywhere else it can go.

of course I would - thing is, i'd also do it just for the chance to sit on the sidelines during the match, and reckon i'd do as good a job as the swede - somewhere in between those two extremes are probably several decent managers .

Granted.  I would do it for fuck all.  The team basically picks itself, it just needs someone to motivate them.  Hence why Martin O'Neill was the best man for the job.  But I ain't bringing all that up again....

Still looks to me that it is definitely not intentional, where else is his foot supposed to go. He was trying to regain his footing and win the ball.
