Maguire would be on a par with us signing Wanker John McGinley (back in the day).

Other than the level he has played at, hasn't Wickham largely played (when fit) in wide positions due to his work rate and versatility?

the last piece to this jigsaw. I feel like Wickham is too much of a risk purely on fitness not ability. saying that if injured we have that flexibility of reacting with loans this season

I’d say Wickham would be risky based on the fact he’s shite and doesn’t score goals.
Like I can’t believe some wanted nothing to do with Davison but would take this guy?

Obviously can't verify that 100% but transfermarket have him down as playing almost entirely centre forward in 2019 when he was playing at a level that recorded that stuff. Scored 3 goals in over 1100 minutes played, which sounds shit but is about 1 in 4ish https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/connor-wickham/leistungsdaten/spieler/95435/plus/1?saison=2019Injured a lot since then but still says CF nearly everytime a position is mentioned.

Agreed. I’d rather see us take a punt on a non league striker with a good goal scoring record. Wick ham is an overrated journeyman with a big wage and a poor record in front of goal.

Wickham was shit every time I picked him up in football manager.
One season he got his pants in such a twist I sent him on loan to supermarine as punishment and let him go for 1k after signing him on a free.
Fuck that.

I always liked Wickham as a player but didn't realise his scoring record was so bad. Saw him score at the Etihad but can't remember if it was for Palace or Sunderland. Given the wages that would be involved, Simpson would be the better bet.

Simpson comes with a transfer fee. I have no idea who this Wickham bloke is but going by our current transfer spend I cannot see us going for what in essence would look like a geriatric, has been journeyman crock. Especially as has been mentioned his wages are going to be something that would possibily destabilise the other players.

Why do we think a striker who doesn’t score goals is going to demand a massive wage?

Because he has generally been employed on Premier League/Championship wages until 2021. I doubt he'd have taken a drop down to our budget levels even at Franchise for a season. Palace paid anything from 7m to 10m for him 7 years ago, I doubt that came with a low wage contract (a contract he was on until 2021). He may be shit, but he won't be cheap.

There's a big difference playing (not always up front) and not scoring regularly at PL and Championship level to being shit at this level.
League 2 is garbage, Wickham would be better Davison.
