I'm sorry. I didn't mean it personally. I was tempted (as Mr Bennett knows) but was put off by the reviews and pictures of problems with it.

Acquired a Cube hardtail MTB from a mate at work a few weeks ago. Spruced it up a bit and have taken it out to croft trail a couple of times. Cracking fun. It is completely fucking up my body though. First time out, came off relatively gently after not quite being able to unclip whilst sliding out a bit, knocking my right hip and spraining my wrist.

Two weeks on swapped the clips for flat, take it out today and come off twice! both on the right side again. Stupidly tried out the wooden section in the wet...thought it would be slippy, but not quite that bad. Might as well have been ice! Smacked my right knee and hip even before I realised I was going down! Manned up and carried on, feeling fine before long, only to do exactly the same on a wet slab of concrete in croft woods! Limped off back to the car with my tail between my legs after that.

Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have metalwork in my upper femur from breaking it as a kid. Christ alive. Two heavy knocks to it and suddenly I can barely get about the house this evening!

Stupid boy. will have to stick to the road bike for the moment.

ha, I reckon I have the record for slowest traverse of the wood section. the person I was with hadn't done it, so naturally...

That wood bit is impossible to traverse in any kind of moisture . Can't count the number of times I've come off there

North shore is an absolute bastard when its wet, I tend to ride round it if possible at trail centres as a) it stops me injuring myself and b) stops me making a twat of myself in front of people.

Question for roadies, I am using Shimano SPD's and am getting a hell of a lot of lateral play in my right pedal/shoe which in turn is exacerbating knee trouble, whilst there is the normal float in the cleats I am also getting play from side to side (imagine if on a clock 12 is the front of the pedal and 6 is the rear, I am getting movement on a 3-9 axis - if that makes sense?) The cleats are fairly new so I assume the pedal is worn (I assume they do wear over time?

Any other suggestions or is it just biting the bullet and new pedals?

Which pedals are they? There's usually a tensioner bolt/screw

Tighten the tensioner right up. Clip in (whilst leaning against something/stationary). Your foot should really be quite hard to get out and only a few degrees lateral float (depending on what cleats you have). Anything more and the pedals are likely to be shot or you haven't screwed your cleats in properly!

That's where I'd start anyway
