Going to our local Italian for lunch. Taking a voice recorder and will ask the owner for his views on life, football and the universe. Will play it back at 5pm and not understand a word. Going cold turkey from PDC is a slow process.

Surprise weekend in London. The wife bought us surprise tickets for Philip Glass's 5-hour epic Einstein on the Beach. I'm gagging for it!

went shopping this morning, came back, had a nap, woke up to some boring rugby on the radio so im off out for a walk. My life in the off season resembles that of an 90 year old man.

Emptied out the greenhouse which was overflowing and put peas, beans, sprouts and pumpkins in the ground. Put the other stuff back in the greenhouse. I seem to have got a bit over enthusiastic with chillies, tomaotes ( devil fruit ) and courgettes. Spuds coming along nicely though. The herbs are also coming along nicely - nothing like a good bit of fresh coriander for the ruby. After all that digging and lumping, my back will hurt tonight but job done.

I always thought corriander would be a bitch to grow, based on those pots you could buy in the supermarket which were always wilting after a day or so. If you grow herbs is it just a matter of throwing the seeds in the soil and watering or do you need to do anything special to get them started?

Just got back from the eldest first holy communion followed by a meal at La Flambe. Which was kind of like 1984. The wife and kids have gone to something called a young farmers rally. Are young farmers, car enthusiasts and the nazi party circa 1936 the only people to attend rallys? I just have a image of a barely coherent bumpkin ranting about annexing Gloucestershire.

I'm in sole charge of two little ones this weekend while the wife is on a hen weekend in Sweden. (My youngest thinks she's gone to Swindon.) Just back from Bournemouth where we had lunch on the beach followed by paddling in the sea....which lasted all of about 4 seconds because it's May and the sea is freezing. Great boys' day out though.
