Title: Match Day Inaction
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10:01:24
What the fuck am I going to do this afternoon?

I'm usually happy for the season to end...but somehow I wouldn't mind this one to have gone on a bit longer :)

Learn to relax Reg....a little meditation would do you good.

Stand on one leg with your eyes closed and imagine flowing water gushing down the rocks of an alpine mountain.

Weather not bad here so I might also indulge myself in a walk also. Possibly a couple of chapters in the park if the sun stays out.

But yes, Saturdays are pretty crap without football.

Just done some gardening. Lot of weeding needed doing, think the rain had made them go mental. Bit later I'll be off to walk the hound on some of the coastal paths.

All in all, pretty relaxing...

I'm at friggin work. Gonna get my fill of Saturday shifts in before the season kicks off again.

Then home to mow the lawn.

Fuck me, if someone told me ten years ago when I was leaving school that this is what I'd be doing with myself on a sunny Saturday I might have got my arse in to gear and done something.

Going to our local Italian for lunch. Taking a voice recorder and will ask the owner for his views on life, football and the universe. Will play it back at 5pm and not understand a word. Going cold turkey from PDC is a slow process.

Emptied out the greenhouse which was overflowing and put peas, beans, sprouts and pumpkins in the ground. Put the other stuff back in the greenhouse. I seem to have got a bit over enthusiastic with chillies, tomaotes ( devil fruit ) and courgettes. Spuds coming along nicely though.
The herbs are also coming along nicely - nothing like a good bit of fresh coriander for the ruby.
After all that digging and lumping, my back will hurt tonight but job done.

I always thought corriander would be a bitch to grow, based on those pots you could buy in the supermarket which were always wilting after a day or so.  If you grow herbs is it just a matter of throwing the seeds in the soil and watering or do you need to do anything special to get them started?

Just got back from the eldest first holy communion followed by a meal at La Flambe.  Which was kind of like 1984.  The wife and kids have gone to something called a young farmers rally.  Are young farmers, car enthusiasts and the nazi party circa 1936 the only people to attend rallys?  I just have a image of a barely coherent bumpkin ranting about annexing Gloucestershire.

I'm in sole charge of two little ones this weekend while the wife is on a hen weekend in Sweden.  (My youngest thinks she's gone to Swindon.)  Just back from Bournemouth where we had lunch on the beach followed by paddling in the sea....which lasted all of about 4 seconds because it's May and the sea is freezing.  Great boys' day out though.

Its piss easy to grow in the greenhouse or on a window sill. Just chuck the seeds in and water occasionally. As long as its got a bit of light and heat and decent soil, it should be OK. Its one of the easier herbs to grow. Parsley can be a bit hit and miss and Rosemary is a bit of a bugger. Chervil, Marjorum, Oregano, Sage, Tarragon, Chives -all easy enough.

Also forgot it is the kids final weekend, was it over at Chippenhams ground Wiggy? Might pop across tomorrow and watch for a bit. Hope your lad enjoyed playing in the final regardless of the result. My lad was in a final at Chippenham last year and the mid wilts cup final was much better run than the county cup final.

He was excited before the match, but has been a bit dejected since - he has been on the losing team in a final twice now. They have done great this year to get a village team into the top division, compete near the top and get to the final of the cup, but were found out today with a little bit of a lack of strength in depth with a couple of their best players missing, and a lack of pace with the players who came in to replace them.

Anyhow, youngest one in Chippenham tournament tomorrow at Stanley Park.

Wandered round Barcelona ahead of the GP tomorrow. Spent most of the day working out how on earth my long suffering Man City supporting mate is going to see the biggest game of his life 20 mins after the race ends. Current favourite is some research of bars near the track ahead of the race with a fund available for bribing the bar staff for Canal+ before legging it there immediately after the race finishes. Anyone know of any streams for Man City v QPR?

Tickets for race were only purchased when City were 8 points behind and the match looked insignificant!

This thread wins the 'most depressing thread of the year' award. Look at us. A pitiful selection of chores, obligations, responsibilities and guilt driven projects. Just one Saturday into the close season, it's not looking good. Come on TEF, someone must have done something so appalling with their first Saturday off that it makes the rest of us wince with embarrassment, but in a bad/good way.

Mowed the lawn, changed the wheels round on my car (swapped front for back), checked oil, topped up windscreen washer fluid & oil, cleaned the CCTV cameras, drive to bracknell to watch my niece and nephew play in the under 10's ice hockey jamboree along with 275 other under 10's. I'm now baby sitting them whilst my sister completes the moonwalk in London.

Some fish are known for their suicidal antics

Take the Neon Tetra, for example. Get a fish tank with a pump, add some Neon Tetras and you can bet your house that all of them will be found dead within the pump within a week.

Scillyred, my inlaws have gone down to St Ives today for their hols and was thinking about getting a helicopter flight over to the isles. Is there certain trips or times that are better/cheaper than others? They have never been over before but are really keen so any heads up would be appreciated. Cheers.

Tips
1) Check the weather forecast carefully - tends to be foggy quite a lot - you don't want to get stranded.
2) Get the first chopper out & last back - it's quite expensive so you want to get the full value - it is sometimes cheaper if you book after 3pm - need to check with heliport at Penzance or on British International Helicopters website.
3) Get a tripper boat to St Martins, St Agnes or Tresco (posh & expensive) - check the return times so they don't miss the return flights - go from the quay at 10.15. Or have a walk/cycle round St Mary's.
4) Chill and relax and turn the body clock back to the 1950s.
5) Beware it's addictive - most of the regulars can tell you how many times they have been over !

Hope this helps - it really is a lovely place.
