And away fans. Bit of a shame it's near the CG to be honest.

Isn't that 2 murders in Manny Road in the space of 6 months or so? I seem to remember one not long back.

There was an attempted murder in November, during our home match with Charlton.

The centre of Swindon has been left to rot for decades while successive council administrations focussed on developing the ever-expanding suburbs.  And this is the result.  I know development is now planned - and I hope it works out - but I can't help feeling that the town is no longer in the race and that it's all too little too late.

Anyway, the area needs help...and quickly.  I can't see the likes of Zurich Financial Services remaining in the area for much longer unless things improve.

Spot on, it's a crying shame that its been allowed to just ebb away like it has. The whole town centre needs redevelopment.

Does anyone know what exactly the plans are to improve the centre? What parts etc?

New bus station and revamped area around Zurich/Fleming Way and the development at the old college building is all i'm aware of. That's if they actually happen.

Got to be done. Very little worth saving.

Need to get some roads in there though. Unless they want Swindon to have the most innaccessible Town centre in the country.

From the Adver....

POLICE have launched a murder probe after a man was killed in the town centre.

The victim, aged 40 and understood to be from the local area, was involved in an "altercation" with an unknown number of men last night, said police.

It is believed he was stabbed.

An ambulance crew arrived on scene at the incident, which happened at around 9.30pm midway down Manchester Road, but were unable to save him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, aged 22 and 23 and also from the local area, were arrested in the area shortly afterward on suspicion of murder.

They are being held at Gablecross police station.

Last night police spoke only of a "serious incident" unfolding, as sniffer dogs and specialist units were spotted combing the area.

Manchester Road and some surrounding streets were closed off.

Police this morning said that part of Manchester Road is likely to remain shut for the rest of today, as they carry out inquiries.

Police will be knocking door-to-door in the area today, and have called on anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

Superintendent Wayne Bonne, from Gablecross police station, said: "Enquiries are very much in their initial stages and will continue across the weekend. Whilst they do we will maintain an increased, visible presence in the area.

"I would like to thank the local community for their assistance so far which has enabled us to make two early arrests.

"We will continue to engage with the community as well as our key partner agencies in our continuing drive to keep Swindon safe."

Very true.  No attempt to adequately upgrade road capacity as the population of the town has grown.  Wootton Bassett Road, for example, was inadequate in the late 1980s for the traffic volumes it was handling then.  It's almost as if managing the deterioration of the town centre has been a council policy...to encourage fewer people to make the trip and therefore avoid the need for costly infrastructure upgrades.

Meanwhile, in Bristol and Reading...
