I left my car at Autospeed on County Road one Saturday lunchtime and as it was going to take a couple of hours walked into town using the back roads around Manchester Road. It was quite an eye opening experience to say the least. Even though I had my young son with me, I was propositioned several times by dodgy ethnics (as Arriba puts it), witnessed a completely obvious drug deal and a domestic where a clearly intoxicated woman was throwing puches at a bloke. This was all in the middle of the day. I'm not an easily intimidated female, but I have to say I felt complete relief when I reached the sanctuary of the bus station! I didn't make the return journey on foot either, I rang my husband who collected us from town and dropped us back there!

While I'm at it. I'me going to the New Century Club tonight and have to walk through the badlands on the way home, roughly midnight anybody care to chaperon me? I don't want to be somebodys little white arse by the morning. Could put a crimp on a Saturday night.
I've done a walk down Cricklade Road, County Road, quite a few times recently, usually about 3 or 4 in the morning, after a night of shagging. Every time I've been propositioned by a lady of night or pimp, or both. Fortunately one of tyhe birds in question has had the good sense to move into OT.

Especially bad because its right outside the bus and train station, so the first thing somebody coming, thats not from Swindon, see's is that shit hole area.
When I first visited Swindon in 1993 I was told that Manchester Road was the one road to stay away from. In 1994 me and my friends stayed at a County Road guesthouse while at Swindon and during the week long stay we saw: two guys beating the hell of guy with sticks in the Manchester Rd/County Rd corner, dope dealers along Manchester Road trying to sell us stuff (especially outside the Tap and Barrell) and the hookers. A mate of mine was by the way asked "Do you have the time?" in Manchester Road by a lady when he was out walking, and he replied: "Time for what?". She got pissed, because the only thing she was asking for was how much the clock was... HAHA! Shitchester Road won't be my next prefered place to stay in Swindon, that's for sure!

It's the best we can do, sorry Especially with that Beachfront. I imagine that might be quite popular in Swindon.

I've walked down Manchester Road several times and have not seen a thing. I feel quite miffed now.

I used to regularly(ish) pop into the shops in that area to pick up fresh fruit / veg and the odd bit of ethnic food like home-made Samosas etc.
All was well up until a couple of years ago. No idea why, but almost overnight (in reality probably a couple of months in between my lunchtime visits) the whole atmos seemed to change. Once friendly shopkeepers turned into suspicious looking cunts who's demeanour and body language seemed to openly question what the fuck I was doing in their shop, and other customers were just plain fucking ignorant by pushing in, jostling me out of the way in front of the food counters etc.
And I'm talking about 3 or 4 of the shops by the way, not just a one-off bad experience visit.
Last time I was there in the winter (the Halal specialists in Broad St which I'd been in literally hundreds of times before) I felt so fucking uncomfortable and unwanted as a customer, I can't be fucked to go there any more.
They can shove their fucking Halal shit shops wherever they want to. The place is a khazi nowadays and wont get a penny of income from my pocket. Cunts.

Every time I pass there I feel as if I'm stepping into the 1980's.
It looks so rundown and an extremely poor area.

Yes Manny Rd hasn't changed one bit over the years really. Other than the fact it seems to get more dodgy every year.
