When I was at school we would often stop at a cafe en route and play pacman, phoenix or defender, there would be about 6 kids huddled around the arcade machine.

I've recently bought an arcade table with 1000 retro games on it, all the classics. And you're right everyone who's in the house at the time will drift over and watch and join in even if they dont really like games, whereas no one bothers watching me play anything on the pc.

Twitch.tv was sold for a substantial amount not long ago. The entire premise of that site is to allow people to watch people playing games

Oh aye, and the rise of people like pewdiepie and letsplays means it's still there. But you rarely have your mates over and watch each other anymore, everyone plays online. Which is a shame sometimes I think.
