You are right. My memory is clearly failing me. Perhaps we didn't replace Fjortoft at all then Just seen the timeline. Thanks. We did sign Jason Drysdale though, as if that was going to solve the problem

That's brilliant achievement for him. Different style of keeper but maybe the next Shay Given?! He'll go far. Deserves to. Just needs the right move next, if he wants game time and more international opportunities.

We didn't replace JAF at all we started playing Ty Gooden as a striker which clearly didnt work, if we had replace him we could have stayed up as we were only 2 points from safety when he left.
Sure we tried Ling up front too? I’m certain he wore the #9 post JAF.

Yeah, good keeper. Certainly a contender for our goalie of the season award.

Yeah, good keeper. Certainly a contender for our goalie of the season award.
It's certainly a tight contest this year, with Travers easily overtaking Kovar in his eight appearances, but Camp coming up on the rails. Makes you wonder what this season might have looked like with a competent keeper from the outset. Travers: 69 votes (8 apps) Kovar: 53 votes (19 apps) Wollacott: 41 votes (2 apps) Fryer: 20 votes (4 apps) Camp: 5 votes (2 apps) Trueman: 4 votes (4 apps) Matthews: 2 votes (1 app)

He may have worn the number 9 but Ling was never played as a striker, he sometimes fell into the hole behind the striker but Lingy was a ball carrying midfielder, he never had a strong enough shot to play as a stiker. He was more like Payne is now in build and style, he would pick the ball up in the middle of the pitch and run at teams often with a great final pass. That said he may have been tried there but I didn't miss a match between 84 and 98 and I don't ever remember him being pushed up front as such.

For me Travers was easily our best keeper we have had this season, but Camp has a 100% record of clean sheets with 2! I also think Wollacott could be a decent keeper in a fe years. Kovar kept 1 clean sheet in 21 games, Travers kept 1 in 8 and Fryer 1 in 3 by comparison.

I would agree with this - all depends on who is in charge and who owns the club, but I can see Wollacott be recruited by us in the summer

I would be happy with Camp and Wollacott staying (signing) with us next season as 1st and 2nd choice whichever league we end up in.

I think the real challenge would be to play two in one game without it being due to a sub.

Stuart Pearce put David James on off the bench up front once just before Man City became less fun.
