Wouldn't cost a transfer fee, hes 1 year older now than he was then so would command less in wages and is out of contract so is currently on £0 pw Wink

Not for me as I would imagine he's injury prone or troublesome as he dosen't play enough games

You not counting the header he missed before another Mansfield player brought a good save out of Benda.

To me, not actually scoring from a decent chance is a miss.

Eleven seasons is more than a few! Didn't Wellens say Mansfield offered him £4K per week when we were after him last season so he wouldn't be cheap
If you look at Eoin Doyles previous 10 seasons, he scored double figures in the previous 2 but in the preceeding 8 of them he didnt score more than 5 goals in any season Wink pretty comparable to Maynard.

Think there’s 4 in this clip

Always there though to get the chances though isn't he which is exactly what Wellens wants from the man leading the line.

He’d be a good 1 year option.

He's played pretty much every game in the last 2 seasons...

RW wasn’t impressed with Yates (and Rose’s) agent was he.... would be a shame to lose Rose because his agent has been playing managers around. Morton (Fake GP) may just be that player he said had a year left and they’re seeing if it’s a loan or perm. Let’s hope so. It could also be about 5000 other players, of course.

Then Doyle was guilty as well then as he hit the post with great chance.

Without Benda in goal Maynard would almost certainly have scored the one that hit the post.

I wouldnt offer him more than 1 year but I don't see much difference between him and Doyle, if Maynard scored 14 goals from 33 games last season for a really poor Mansfield team then I expect he would have got far closer to Doyles hit rate in a good team like ours was/is.

I'd like to think we've moved on to better quality since getting promoted, but I don;t watch Maynard play every week, so who knows.  He has a good record in the bottom two Divisions and I do remember him being the most dangerous player on that Mansfield team.  Wellens record suggests he'd more likely look at someone already in this division but having fallen out with the Manager despite being a good player, or someone higher up with good prospects or having not lived-up to early high promise.  Man Utd must have a couple of those knocking about, either with them or having already moved down a peg or two.

Well, yes. But we only got to see Maynard once so got to form an opinion on that - flimsy I agree.

Personally I would prefer us not so sign Maynard but he has a half decent track record so is a proven goal scorer, as was Doyle, Doyle had a fantastic run which made him a hero at Swindon but he will never again and never before got even close to that at any club.

If we could go out and grab a freebie bargain instead of him then I would be happy, if we signed Pitman or Maynard then I would be happy with either of them too, a bit of experience up front is always handy but nothing guarantees success.

We could sign someone who has played only 20 games in a career and only scored 3 times and yet with our formation and chance creation as it is score a shit ton of goals.

As always its horses for courses, some players suit clubs, some clubs suit players, some players suit formations (as Doyle did) and thats when it gets you results.

I think any half decent striker will score at least the same mount of goals as Yates scored and who knows, may even get close to Doyles hit rate as well.

The chances we created last season were massive, and good chances too not half chances too.

So, you reckon we only need 2 strikers?

In the mold of a Doyle, yes.  A spearhead and finisher.  DJ is on for the number 10 role and we probably need 1 or 2 extra wide players alongside those two up top.

Central strikers yes as we have Hope/DJ/Woolery(if he signs) as wide/flexible strikers as well as Isgrove again if he signs.

If you look at chances created in our last 8 games you will see how many chances we get, most recent 1st.

Swindon v FGR 0-2
16 shots 3 on target

Swindon v Scunthorpe 2-0
6 shots 4 on target

Swindon v Grimsby 3-1
21 shots 7 on target

Northampton v Swindon 0-1
11 shots 5 on target

Carlisle v Swindon 1-1
10 shots 4 on target

Swindon v Exeter 2-1
12 shots 5 on target

Colchester v Swindon 3-1
15 shots 7 on target

Swindon v Port Vale 3-0
19 shots 9 on target

In those games Doyle only scored in 1 of those games, 2 goals in the Scunny game. Yates only scored 1 goal too in the Port Vale game, yet both Hope and DJ both scored in 2 games.
