Just got back,Impressive display,Quite funny to see the kiwis try to scare our lads with the haka,The game it's self was good with some nice one touch football and well taken goals especially the fifth from billy bodin,Macklin caused them problems with his pace down the right and was the provider for the third. My man of the match was Jake Hyde he looks a really good striker,Ran his heart out and looked for spaces which happen to pull their defenders away leaving gaps for our midfielders to get in on goal.5-1 could have been double figures we also hit the post 3 times and bodin missed another good chance.

I like the way paul bodin encouraged his player's on through the match, keep it simple and take another touch if your not sure was a few of things he said.He also appreciated the effort his players was putting in by applauding them when they done something good.

It was only the Kiwis but i like the way P. bodin had his side passing the ball,IMO It looks like he could be a good manager one day.

A nice morning in the sun and plenty of goals  :D

I also went along and watched this.

Firstly as stupid as it sounds, it was nice to watch a game with no noise. I could hear everything the players and manager said. Good insight.

Swindon passed the ball around well, simple but effective for the most part held shape and worked the ball across the pitch well. After going in 3-0 at half time I think for alot of the second half all the Town youngsters wanted too many touches and too much time on the ball.

Special mention to Billy Bodin who's voice has not broken yet (how old is he looks & sounds about 12) so his calls for the ball were so high pitch it amused me.

Mark Scott didnt really have much to do but his handling was good

Number 2 'ells' looks alright, good on the ball caught out position a few times, slow to get back certain in the second half

Andy Westall looked really good at centre back. I've seen him play a few times at right back but hes come on loads and looks bigger built. Strong in the air and good with the football. Wasnt his most challenging challenge but did well.

Will Evans next to him was very much the same but some of his distribution was a bit erratic.

Number 3 Jack (winter is it?) looked good but very much not a right back. Really good on the ball and got forward alot.

Lloyd Macklin looked handy final ball was a bit hit and miss and reminds me alot of Christian Roberts. This kids got talent I just hope he has a good attitude because he strikes me as the type of kid who will either make it or screw himself over with a poor attitude.

Kurt Hammods (I think it was him wearing 6) did alright on the middle but dont think the midfield two had alot to do passing was tidy.

Same really for number 8.

Billy Bodin looked good but tiny. As said above he looks 12. Unless he is 12 or has a serious growth spurt he will struggle to make it for being small. Sad, looked quality esp in the first half good running, good crossing. Good passing unlucky to hit the post. Second half he was so good, wanted too much time on the ball and missed some good chances. Nice to see him get a goal at the end though. Probably should have had a few more

Number 9, no idea who he was but looked pretty good, his through ball to Macklin for the first goal was bloody ace. Took his header well to.

Jake Hyde did really well, plays really well with his back to goal. His control is fantastic took his goal well could have had a few more. Troubled NZ all game. If anything looked like the target man we dont have but use Billy Paynter as.

Subs.

12 Barnes did alright. Got alot of the ball but I dunno didnt seem to have the pace or the crossing ability to be a winger but im sure its early days.

14 was so hit and miss I thought, one minute he'd played a great pass next he'd give the ball away. Looked better after his goal.

16 over on the far side really did see any of the ball second half and did very little when he had it

sub goal keeper looked ok but not really tested.

Hyde looked good but as its been said hes a pro the others arent. I thought Westall, Macklin and Bodin stood out just a little bit more so than the others.

On another note Ben Joyce I would have thought he'd be playing, he's still young enough right? I guess he played for the reserves last night instead?

hahahaha so billys balls still aint dropped? i noticed his high pitched squeeling last season.he's at least 16 and may be 17 now.
seriously. if he can cope that level of football without growing properly yet, then surely he should only get better?

Nice post DV you seem to have a decent knowledge of our youngsters,I was dissapointed there was no team sheet,so it was awkward for me to know who was who.

Any idea what happened to their lad who was stretchered off he looked in a lot of pain,I was towards the townend so couldt really see a lot.

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: DiV on Thursday, October 2, 2008, 15:45:52
I was sat pretty much in the middle.

For the last 15 minutes a guy who looked in pain in the New Zealand tracksuit came and sat near me. He looked like the player who had gone off injured but I could be wrong. He looked in pain but nothing too bad.

Could be wrong though.

I know some of the names from the FA Youth Cup games from the team sheet other names I just guessed by the shouts to be honest.

Billy Bodin is a good player at that level is fine but fully grown men will tower over him. He just looks so young. Everyone grows at different rates so he might hit a spurt at 18 but as arriba put so tactfully his balls hasnt dropped and if hes really 17 that surprises me.

My voice deeping was the last thing to happen but that happened way before 16/17!!

You might have seen me walk in, horrible tatty grey hoody and jeans!

Malpas continues to infuriate me!!!! When the 1st team did some light training saturday, the youth team were playing as training finished, a few pros went over to watch for for a bit, yet Malpas walked straight past the game and didnt watch 1 minute of the game then he drove home! and Malpas has never said 1 word to Sam Morris, never even acknowledged him ever! this is a pro footballer training under him!!

Also, any idea how old they are?

I know its a bit much but when I watch football I like to know a few things about who im watching. A few of them looked pretty good but then over the years alot of players have and then still ended up in the non league.

Im still not convinced Billy Bodin is older than 12 though...

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's

Mark Scott - 2nd Year
Jack Winter - 2nd Year
Elliott Knight - 1st Year
Andy Westall - 2nd Year (had his contract extended at youth level due to his serious shoulder injury)
Will Evans - 1st Year
Kurt Hammonds - 2nd Year
Lloyd Macklin - 2nd
Danny Wallington - 2nd Year
Jamie Taylor - 2nd Year
Jake Hyde - 1st year pro
Billy Boding - 1st year

Dan im pretty sure it was Tom Evans starting not Will Evans, cos Will started the Swansea Ressie game the night before, Tom & Jake started cos they cant get a game in the reserves

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's

I'm probably wrong then. I thought Tom Evans was a few years older and thus too old but I knew it was one of the Evans's

Is the youth thing 3 years now or 2 years?

the youth scheme is 2 years, but because the New Zealand game was only a friendly we could field over age players, which is why Tom & Jake played, they are both 1st year pro's so a year older than the current 2nd year youths

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: DiV on Friday, October 3, 2008, 16:48:42
Ah right, see I'd like to take interest in things like this but alot of the information isnt that available.

I'd love to see some more youth players come through the ranks. Pook is the only one recently and I still dont think hes that good.

Chris Allen is technically very good but I dont think he'll ever get the chance here.

I know we made a big deal about signing 9 youth players on pro contracts last year but how many of them will feature in the first team ever? How many of them have? Im not talking the odd game in the JPT but in the league.

Joyce and Morrison look good but both came from Plymouth didnt they?

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, October 3, 2008, 16:53:10
yeah Joyce Morrison & Tozer all came from Plymouth, only the 3 lads Plymouth lads played in the league, the thoughts of the youth team is if u arent from Plymouth u have no chance!! Dave gives special treatment to those 3 he brought in.
the 9 who got pro's wasnt to do with being good enough for the 1st team it was cos we had a scouts down due to the youth cup runs and if they wanted to sign one we would get more money for them, sensible thing to do really.

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: Rustle on Friday, October 3, 2008, 17:57:48
See i always think youth is the future rather than spend loads on other player's,Surely we have a few potential's who are home grown.

I've heard nothing but good thing's about this kennedy kid, aint it time he got a game, what have we to lose bar 3 points which we tend to lose anyway.

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, October 3, 2008, 18:00:54
the brightest prospect we have is Lloyd Macklin, yet cos Malpas doesnt watch the youth games and doesnt talk to Bodin he hasnt got a fucking clue that Lloyd has scored about 13 goals in 8/9 games from right midfield, Lloyd doesnt even get on the bench for ressie games, its a joke, if we arnt careful we will lose him to a prem team, Chelsea looking at him end of last season

Macklin has looked good every time I've seen him. He reminds me alot of Christian Roberts from the way he glides across the pitch to the way he pulls up his socks.

I dont know why put I just expect him to be up himself and have a crap attitude. I really dont know why. I hope im wrong.

He's certainly no worse than JPM or MM have been. He does seem to have that hint of Christian Roberts arrogance about his play as well.

Kennedy to me didnt look brilliant in the fa youth cup runs. Not that he was bad but I dont think he was head and shoulders above everyone else like Lukas, Allen and Morrison were.

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, October 3, 2008, 18:14:58
Bodin is managing his team well, winning games and playing good football, Malpas has done the exact opposite with his team, its Malpas who has the problem with Bodin not the other way round, Malpas has no interest in the youths, hes proved that numerous times

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, October 3, 2008, 18:16:48
Lloyd has a bit of a attitude on the pitch, but to be fair to him he has cleaned it up alot, because he knows hes lightning quick and can beat the full back all day long he gets frustrated when he doent get the ball

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: DiV on Friday, October 3, 2008, 18:21:31
As long as the bad attitude stays on the pitch.

He looked annoyed and shruged his shoulders when Bodin shouted at him to come off. Some people class that as bad attitude but to me that shows he wants to play. No one should want to get subbed!

Everyone gets frustrated when they dont get the ball, again shows that they want the ball.

If he knuckles down off the pitch and doesnt get too big for his boots I fancy him to make it. If I were in charge and watched yesterday I would have taken him up to Hartlepool with the squad but I guess they left before that game anyway...but still.

Title: Re: Bodin's Youngster's
Post by: JPC82 on Friday, October 3, 2008, 18:23:01
in the new zealand game he had to be subbed as he was flying to scotland for a family berevement, he wanted to play as long as he could before having to rush to the airport

I dont watch him every week so wouldnt know...

....but I think Right Midfield has been one of our weakest positions this season. JPM hasnt been up to it and Marshall still hasnt convinced me. Looks good when we are chasing a game dont know how he'd do on the defensive side of things.

Id certainly be tempted to give him a go. If not the league at least in the piss poor paint pot against Hereford.

Fitton outlines in his AGM introduction that bringing youth players through and selling them on is part of the plan.

I'd imagine if the manager has no interest in the youth team (or its manager) he'd take steps to correct it PDQ.

I'd imagine Fitton is considerably more in touch with what goes on at the CG and has a considerably larger clue what to do about it than some geezer who hangs out of the fringes of the youth team
