The Kiwis armed with some seaweed and a pine cone, were in the running until recently....I guess the Durtch got it to pique the Brexiteers.
PS who was PM for the classic Michael Fish cock-up?
Crikey, I know that Thatcher had her fingers in a lot of pies but was she writing the weather forecasts as well? They ceased to be Dutch a long time back and if anything in terms of ownership can be considered a US company now so possibly just a foresight into what the world will look like when TTIP is implemented.

Haven't you retired to France though? Not exactly. Been working here since I was 23. Mostly for British companies too. Not that that earns me the gratitude of a vote from my benighted motherland.

Untrue Reg. It's still there if you listen on Radio 4 LW. The commentators even mention the breaks? It's probably the best weather forecast there is if you can mentally visualise the wind directions, pressures, rainfall, cyclones/anti-cyclones around the coast in that clockwise direction. You can build up a picture of the weather systems in your head and predict what is coming. You obviously have to know where the shipping areas are of course.

I can confirm that the shipping forecast still interrupts TMS on long wave.

The debate theme was Horlock raising the dystopian view of the world after TTIP is implemented by the Brexit right; my contribution to this horror, a world without the shipping forecast. I guess you'd see the right to carry arms and live as a backwoodsman with a small private army in Shaw Forest as a good thing.

Has there been any suggestion that TTIP would lead to the demise of the Shipping Forecast, it survived Thatcher, no reason why the Americans would want to see the back of it especially as it is an American company which can charge for its information?

I'd imagine under TTIP, the BBC goes, to be replaced by something resembling US PSB.

When the Queen dies and Charles becomes king, will Prince Philip become the King Father?
