Got up this morning to go for a run as usual, while getting ready, stepped on a wasp in my bare feet. Now have a little toe roughly the size of Finland and can barely walk, much less run Not a great start to the day. How's the wasp?

How's the wasp?
You're lucky to find one these days... there is a growing crisis in the loss of insect pollinators, which is having a massive impact on biodiversity. All sorts of reasons for this... climate change, rise in human population causing habitat loss, overuse of pesticides, even just "tidiness" SBC provide plenty examples of the latter, for example recently wantonly chopping down the carefully developed meadow lands at 7 fields.

It's fine, thanks for asking! You're lucky to find one these days
Didn't feel that lucky as I hopped around my bathroom with a toe like something off Tom and Jerry this morning.

Thought you were starting a blues song there.... A bee/wasp flew into my cycling helmet and got stuck when I was doing 30mph+ on Saturday afternoon, happy to acknowledge that I basically shat my pants until I stopped and extracted the little bastard! Oooh, nasty. TBF, I did better than my eldest who had one fly into his bed a couple of years ago and sting him on the arse! Not the nicest way of waking up, especially as once we'd ascertained that no-one was actually being murdered the rest of us pissed ourselves laughing at him

I got stung in the head a couple of weeks back because I was too close to a nest. Gave me a headache, though not as bad as the time a hornet stung me in the neck. I thought my head was going to explode.

Audrey, you had me wondering - in the coldest winter months, with gas central heating, hob (electric oven though) we were just over 8000 in a 4 bed house.
April-June 2500 (June was 297)

That’s what I don’t understand. I’ve only got a 2 bed cottage - well insulated - nothing gas other than CH and I apparently used more than you.

Are you sure you're not supplying the whole street?

Phoned SSE today but got nowhere - harsh winter, your readings blah blah blah.
Can’t think of what to do about it tbh - other than pay up!

Do your readings match theirs? I once had British Gas try to charge me several thousand for a quarter when I'd only been there a few weekends. Turned out they'd billed me for imperial rather than metric measurements (or vice versa, I can't quite remember now). Either way,it turned out they owed me 500 quid rather than me owing them £4k. Double check meter readings, units used, unit price, everything. And if they can't explain it properly, escalate until you find someone who can explain rather than just read off a script
