Howe was shit, and i hated him intensely.

My cult hero was Antoine Van Der Linden, who is still going strong in the Dutch equivalent of the Premier League with FC Groningen.  He's even on Pro Evo 5!

Further to that, what are the criteria for being a "cult" hero as opposed to a normal one?

True enough.  Nailing Lee Trundle as a cardiff boy must have been sweet.  It was an ace tackle from Jenks, and Jackett threw the toys out the pram saying it was a foul.  I like Jenks he's a tramp and he knows it.

Yes  He has that "everyman" thing about him. The way he looks  and conducts himself he could quite easily be one of us if you know what I mean.

Except Walrus as hes too pretty :kisskiss:

Paul Allen. Still good when he was with us, and used to enjoy mocking the opposing full back with his trickery much to the delight of the Nationwide.

A cult hero would be a non mainstream hero.  Someone that has no logical reason for being popular.

Parkin scored 20+ goals for 3 seasons running = normal hero

The Bobby Howe example - couldn't pass, run, shoot, head etc but somehow remained relatively well liked, even if on a piss take level only.  Drysdale had much the same ability level but was generally hated.

Paul Allen, in the Shadow of the south stand at the bank end Allen would jauntily take on his man, beat him three times then slip over.  Was he always wearing the wrong boots? Or did the shadow make 'Paul Allen corner' unusually slippery?

I think Fallon was a bit of a cult hero you know....probably could have been a bona fide hero you know, had he stayed longer you know and carried on scoring you know....but that goal v Shitty you know...others like Luton away you know and the Shef Weds game.

Then getting sent off on full debut v Rushden you know and then scoring when bundling Hunter you know and ball into the goal in the home game you know......then turning up at the CG you know playing crap for Yeovil reserves you know.....plus numerous other things puts him into cult status you know.

I'd nominate Steve Jenkins as a potential cult hero.

He not especially good but looks like he sleeps on a park bench, when most footballers spend half their day gettin g their hair done.

He also says great things like "we got the game" to the adver. In my eyes the true cult hero of the current squad. Its just I dont really think anyone else agrees. Sad

He's by far the most charismatic player we’ve had in years and out of the current squad he’s by far my favourite.

His scruffiness is just there to be marvelled at.

Id say Paul Allen as well ... I used to watch in the Nationwide corner at that time and he had a good rapport with the noisy support in that corner .. always celebrated down there when he scored a goal ..
