I think also just that kind of player who's keen to commit to challenges and leave a foot in is much more of a liability with the way the game is refereed now.
Minturn was a bit like this when he first came through, committed too often and too hard, particularly after making a mistake. Will have to see if Mabete grows out of it.

Know what you mean.
But then - with some justification - so did the late, great Jon Gittens worry me. It never stopped him becoming a cult hero.
He may well turn out to be fine. I am not going off any stats or data. Just isolated incidents where I think he's looked rash and panicky. It's nothing but a gut feeling, he's just yet to fill me with confidence. Hopefully we will look back at this in the future as an awful take and I have egg on my face.

Been away and only caught highlights so far, but from what I'm gathering it seems we've been pretty bad overall for the 3 games so far?

We've started badly and improved in every game. Some of the individuals look pretty good, there doesn't look to be a lot of structure just yet. Very early season.

Is there a longer winless run in the League Cup than ours? Both currently& of all time?
By a previous winner ??

Agreed. I'll add I'm still not sure if we are better or worse than last season. I'm a bit confused about out game plan, we wen't quite long to Smith v Walsall and started the same yesterday. Midfield hasn't impressed my yet. But as above its too early to tell. Only comment on the 3 games (or the 2 I saw).

Yet the midfield now consists of two ball players, rather than a ball player and a destroyer - suggesting either that we have failed to recruit what we want (an Ofoborh replacement, unless this was meant to be Ball?) or that we actually do mean to play it through them, but have failed to do so.

We don’t look as creative as last season but when you make a note of the players we’ve lost in that area you come up with Tshimanga, Cotterill & Ofoborh - now I can’t say the first two were massively rated and Ofoborh wasn’t known for his creativity but it certainly feels lacking.
I also think a massive outlier was psychological last season. During our run we had a lot of games against teams who had a lot of play for be it chasing play off or promotion where as we basically had nothing important to play for - which probably made them a bit nervous & gave us freedom.
New season & slightly raised expectations I feel that dynamic has changed.

How many box entries did we have in the first half?

We've not been great
But we still have 3 points from the playoff finalists and a side tipped to challenge the top 7.
1.5 PPG over the course of the season would've got you 8th last year.
We are fine, but we certainly need to iron out some issues.

2nd half against Cardiff clicked. It's just being able to do this for the whole 90mins.

I guess I'm expecting even more than the second half.
edit: I'm not worried yet. Judging after two (league) games is silly.
