Much better second half, we seemed to come our with more effort and belief. Unbelievable David Narey esque strike from Will Wright, who was probably our best player. Paul Cook will feel hard done by given Chesterfield we're denied a stonewall penalty at 1-0 and Will Wright probably should have seen a second yellow.

Very good point to get off the mark.

Good: Wright’s goal and Wright generally, Hall second half, Longelo was ok,our general physicality, we’re much more streetwise than we’ve been for a while, Smith second half caused problems, we were winning flick ons.

Bad: Hall and Bycroft for a very avoidable goal, Hall for the pen. There were red flags in there but thankfully he looked ok in the second half. Cotterill was absent, but he’s young and we must give him time, and the complete lack of purpose in the first half.

No real takeaways: Freckleton, King, Drinan, Sobowale (although he nearly let them in at the end)

It was very strange watching a team of complete unknowns/debutants. Zero connection to the players. I’ve never called every player by their surname. That’ll take some time.

A point is a positive start given where most expect them to be. There’s some shite in this division and on that evidence, we’ll be more organised than many. It’s clear as day that we need that attacking midfielder. If we don’t get that, we’re really going to struggle to break teams down. But, I’m
positive after that - which I didn’t think I’d say at 8.45.

Well firstly I thought sky was a massive upgrade from ifollow.

You can't compare this team with last, everything is different.
I thought we already looked like we can defend. Wright and Hall were excellent. Can only get better, we looked solid.
I have absolutely no problem playing the long ball to smith to either hold up or knock on. Tippy tappy has got us fucking know where the last few years and I loved the more physical Swindon. I can see glatzel and smith becoming a deadly combination once they start knowing each others game.

I really enjoyed that. I feel we will be up there this season.
You're right, very different set up which in the first half was hugely frustrating because we didn't get it right in midfield or in our attacking approach. Second half was very different. It would be easy to forget that Chesterfield scored 106 (National League) goals last season whilst we let in 83 at the other end. Let's hope that a few more games together allows this side to properly click.

I know we all want another creative midfield (and for McGurk to come up trumps) but it’s pretty pointless having a creative midfield if you’re going to play them between your defence and your midfield #8s rather than between your midfield #8s and strikers

Encouraging second half. For me Wright,Freck,Hall,Smith,Longelo were the pick of our players and liked the look of Sobo when he came on. Thought we were the better side second half. Spot on subs by the way.

Now I have binned off Twitter gonna try and be a bit more active on here rather than just lurking in the background!
Great result tonight, would’ve ripped your arm off for that pre-match. Yes, it was fortunate but sense there is quite a bit more to come when they get to know each other better. Think the comments on here about 30mins into a 46 game season were a bit over the top to be honest!

Think that’s fine with hindsight that it got better, don’t think at the time there was anything wrong with people commenting on how bad it was, and it was very bad.

For the first game of the season, with a rebuilt team, a point away is a decent start.  Stay in the game and be hard to beat are attributes we have historically had to try to overcome.  It was the home's side's big party in front of a large crowd, it was a very difficult start.

I'd have taken a point all day long. Glad the second half was better sounding than the first.

Goal was superb.

It was a pretty awful for sure, just seemed a smidge early for the fatalistic writing off of a season ….but I guess after last season it is understandable

Just got home, happy with a point and even more so with an improved second half performance.

BBC have us top of the league. Would have expected it to be Chesterfield on alphabetical order. Anyone able to explain?
At a guess, are away goals used before it goes to alphabetical order?
