…also to add to that - injuries will be key again. Depth isn’t there.

If we don’t see much of Hall and Delaney then we will be in trouble.

Cynically; we came right out the blocks with our recruitment making a good start to just stop, stand still & let everyone else over take us.

1st page of the ownership manual, get the fans back on side to sell some season tickets then do the same as every season and be unprepared on the first game of the season.

the thing with this is last season (and the previous 2) is so fresh in everyone's minds. we have to start well or its going to get right back up to that same level of fans turning.

FWIW its hard to gauge a team from even the first 6 games of a season.

Look at last season, we looked excellent in the first 9 games of the season last year and only had 2 defeats in the first 13 but went on to finish in our lowest ever league position.

Conversely under Macari we lost the first 2 games and only had 2 wins in the first 8 games, losing 5 of them and then pissed the league with 102 points.

Under Di Canio we only had 1 win and 4 defeats in the first 5 games and again walked the league with 93 points.

Under Wellens we only won 2 of our first 5 games and won the title.

I won't be knee jerking if we get beat or getting overly excited if we win tonight as it takes a month at least before you get a feel of how good a team you actually are.

I know that the consensus is that we've not done enough in the transfer market and that may well prove to be true but they've certainly done enough for me, along with the change in management team to actually be looking forward to the start of the season. At the end of last season I absolutely could not see us finishing above 23rd this time round but I am now very confident we can exceed that by some margin.

The ownership is clearly not fit for purpose, nothing has changed there but with all of that said, I will be absolutely delighted with a 1-1

Come On You Mother Fucking Cunting Bastard Reds....

22nd should do it. As for your motivational speech, needs work on it I think.

Talking of injuries, Chesterfield seem to be missing quite a few (per Moonraker):

Chesterfield have three first-teamers definitely ruled out of the game – Paddy Madden (calf), Ryheem Sheckleford (hamstring) and Ash Palmer (knee) - while captain Jamie Grimes (thigh) is struggling.

Also per Moonraker, this stone cold gem:

"The Moonraker understands a review of last season’s performances identified Swindon had a large deficiency when it came to getting the ball into the box."

I think most married men suffer that after the Mrs has had a few nippers. 🤣🤣

Chesterfield fans are very excited about the upcoming season and rightly so very confident about beating us tonight. This on their return to the EFL for the first time in 6 years out of it.

Not 1 person in their forum predictions thread giving us a win with probably 90% suggesting an easy home win against us.

This is to be expected after storming to the title in the National League last season winning it by 12 clear points, but, they did lose 4 of their last 5 games.

In pre season they were beaten by Matlock, Nottm Forest, Sheff Utd, Long Eaton and beat Alfreton, Scunthorpe and Derby, so a very mixed bag.

They kept the core of their side from last season and brought in
Lewis Gordon [Bristol Rovers - Free]
Chey Dunkley [Shrewsbury - Free]
Vontae Daley-Campbell [Peterborough - Free]
Devan Tanton [Fulham - Loan]
Paddy Madden [Stockport - Free]
Kane Drummond [Macclesfield - Free]
Tim Akinola [Al Bidda - Free]

Jamie Grimes (thigh) has returned to full training and could make a surprise return. Paddy Madden (calf), Ryheem Sheckleford (hamstring) and Ash Palmer (knee) are definitely out.

Chesterfield predicted line up:

                Boot
Mandeville Dunkley Naylor Gordon
           Oldaker Banks
     Jacobs  Dobra Colclough
               Grigg

Referee: Scott Oldham
Assistant referee: Grant Taylor
Assistant referee: Ollie Williams
Fourth official: Matt Corlett

Hopefully we will go out there tonight and really fuck up their complacency and make them realise how much of a step up L2 is compared to last season in front of our 803 (ticket sales so far) fans with them expecting 9,000+ attendance in total.

A credible 1-1 against a team with fans clearly up for it. Their players may, just May over estimated themselves and under estimate us.

Scorer, Clarke

Bycroft MOTM.

8,760 (Names and addresses to follow)

TV comms, stuck as who to patronise most, Chesterfield getting sucked off for being newly promoted from the pub league.

Being the first game of the season anything can happen, indeed, often dies until things settle down four or five games in.

If this were normal mid season I'd expect a loss. But form is often erratic first month. Anything can happen.

But probably won't.

3-1

Chesterfield being a 4th tier club without money is hardly a fairy tail is it? If they're claiming it is with money then its a strange one.

Hopefully we can get off to a good start, and Kennedy can show the fans what his team will be like, and how his team will play, and we may get an idea of the type of player we still need to sign

I'm expecting a 0-0 with our defence being the busiest but looking capable of holding their own.

Looking forward to seeing the new players for the first time on SkySports+.  I've read good reports about them, and hope for at least a draw today.

I still remember the 5-0 at Gillingham in an early kick off put us bottom of the table, only to be undertaken by Norwich losing 7-1 to Colchester in the 3 o'clock kick off.

Norwich pissed the league & we missed out on promotion thanks to "That Bobble" at Wembley
...and Gillingham went down

As I have something like one correct score prediction per season I won't be putting any money on this but going 2-0 Chesterield.
