must get a point to avoid the Beamish record, and to keep Mr chest beater quiet.

prediction wise Duke gave us a heads up on the squad changes. did look like we'd retained just about enough to flirt with playoffs but losing Payne and McKirdy stopped anything more

Didn’t he say that the budget would be cut, and that we would rely on loans?

Neither of them happened. The budget was increased and we didn’t rely on loans for the first time in a long time.

suspect budget did go up, but including transfer fees. Average wage down I bet, and it shows.

we binned higher earners

I don’t think the wage budget was down, we have a fucking massive squad now. It’s just full of shit.

We have used 38 players in the matchday squad this season 5 were loans making the squad 33 players actually Swindon contracted players.

Last season we used 41 players in the matchday squad and 8 were loans making the squad 33 players actually Swindon contracted players, the same as this season.

The season before that we used 45 players in the matchday squad and 12 were loans (4 keepers) making the squad 33 players actually Swindon contracted players as well.

So in the last 3 seasons we have a core squad of 33 Swindon contracted players each season.

I’d still be willing to bet good money our wage bill was higher this season than last.

On the face of it with our financial position being massively improved it aught to have been. Which makes this seasons damp squib of a performance even more errr, embaressing.

Would imagine there isn’t much in it. Remember last season we’d have had historical contracts for the likes of Payne and Conroy which will have been well above what anyone is paid this season.

Some people have a real hard on for the Duke on here.  Yet everyone at some point has said something that hasn't happened.  Not everything he says is 100% right but there is no doubt he is talking with people that have more insight than most on here and I am always interested to hear what is being said, whether it turns out true or not.

I'm not one of those and quite often have conversations with him off line. In my experience what he's told me in the past has always been correct.

Or show him comments from our fans early last season about Lindsey. But that was prefaced with about what a nice bloke he is.

Problem with this club now is what was going to happen at 12 O'Clock changes by 1pm now.

So true, it’s so  fucking weird 😂 Met him loads of times at away games - top guy. Forum fulla weasels always with he said she said bitching, just let it go man.

As for the budget stuff- for me yeah the budgets gone up for sure - can’t go down after an embargo….  But we’ve filled it with less expensive players who’ve been shit and we lost the big earners IE Payne and Conroy so in that sense, it’s been a huge saving.

I love Duke. Don't always agree with him but so what? Big hugs at Wimbledon and he's Town through and through. What is not to like?
