Bizarrely I was looking at the TEF yesterday and a really old match day thread from 2009 at home to Southend United. There was a discussion about a group of fans (one of them was the Rick Wakeman lookalike) and one overweight gentleman in particular that basically spent the whole game abusing the players/manager etc. I wonder if it's the same gentleman in question?

We won that game against Southend as well.

Your description made me think I may have been heavily involved in that discussion, I was right :-)

I haven't see Rick-a-like for a bit. Was hobbling around last time but that was ages ago (last season).

Haha - you were indeed Rob. The other guy only posted about 25 times on here, but I noticed was loitering in the 'guest list' and I was curious as to whether he posted. Even though it was 13 years ago, there were similarities between that match day thread and the one from last night! Smiley

Not seen Rick Wakeman (Ernie) in years.
Used to be a regular on the Barnes coaches in the late 80's & in to the 90's.
That group became quite cynical during the McMahon years if not before. Back seat moaners.

Not sure what it's like on the coaches these days, but switching to independent travel has kept the away days as a fresh experience for me.

If it is true then he will never get the fans on his side.

Fans can be overly precious about staff giving as good as they get.

Imagine being on the receiving end of some of the bile spewed by elements of the faithful and having to hold your tongue.

Not easy, trust me.

I think he looks more like Rick Parfitt personally

At the risk of repeating myself, has the opinion that Gladwin and Williams should not play in the same 11 been disproved? I think they are probably our 2 best footballers, although I know that's not a universally held opinion.

Thanks for clarifying I wasn't sure if it was the usual forum gossip.

Based on what you witnessed he has to be careful not to react to fans winding him up as it will escalate quickly if results & performances deteriorate.

Probably I’ll advised as you say, but don’t actually mind it. Lot more passion than you get from SL in the interviews. He would definitely benefit from some media training if we plan on having him around for long enough to be worthwhile!
