Conspiracy theory alert: He was ready to walk last week but the offer of a shiny new contract was provided. Absolutely no idea it there is any grain of truth in that, just something I heard on the grapevine.
I'll add fuel to the conspiracy - I was chatting to a Newport fan whilst on holiday (ironically teh day we played them) and he said there were polarised views on his departure 1) the fans respected him for his managerial skills in difficult circumstances (along  with Hatswell) so love him 2) the fans disovered that he was party to some of the dodgy dealings that were taking place in the background that weren't in Newport's best interest's so hate him...

The reality - managers work within the confines of what they are offered/given by their Chairmen even thought they may not agree with it... provided he gets the team winning on the pitch after Saturdays performance then I'll leave it to the trust to work out what is going on on the boardroom

Poor sod, of they had only sacked him a bit earlier he could have thrown his hat in the ring for the Foreign Secretary job!

Is that the ex-Exeter one and not our ex-player? (I think he's at Shrewsbury)

Des Buckingham favourite still though, as of 2 hours ago.

Quote
Oxford-born Buckingham would be a popular choice among U’s supporters, with the 38-year-old currently in charge of Indian Super League side Mumbai City, following stints with Wellington Phoenix and New Zealand age group teams.

According to The Sack Race, Buckingham is 1/2 to take over at United.

He is closely followed by Notts County head coach Williams, who guided the Magpies back into the Football League last season and has got them sitting fifth in League Two this campaign.
